00:00The now infamous incident has made national headlines, and Elizabeth Lee's political opponents
00:08aren't entirely sympathetic.
00:10I've not been tempted to flip the bird. I've certainly had my share of frustrations in
00:15press conferences.
00:16It's not something that I think the Canberra community would expect to see from somebody
00:19leading a major political party.
00:21Over the course of a campaign, you learn a lot about how individuals respond to immense
00:26pressure. I can understand why the Canberra Liberals leader would be quite frustrated
00:32given everything that has gone wrong in their campaign.
00:35I think the Canberrans, I would hope that they don't see literally a second in terms
00:40of where, yes, I accept that I let an emotional reaction get the better of me, and judge me
00:47based on that.
00:48Ms Lee puts the incident down to frustration with a journalist.
00:51That journalist, Region Media's Ian Bushnell, wasn't at the Liberals media event today.
01:03He did defend his approach and professionalism with an opinion piece, writing the incident
01:08definitely calls into question whether the opposition leader has a temperament for the
01:12top job.
01:14And he argued he takes the same approach with others, writing, I do as every other Canberra
01:19journalist constantly grill Mr Barr, but he is a much more experienced politician and
01:24has the benefit of long incumbency.
01:26The Chief Minister agrees press conferences can be a headache.
01:30That's part of the role in government. Every week you have to give, make difficult decisions,
01:38give press conferences where you are likely to get questions that are uncomfortable.
01:42I accept, I absolutely accept and respect that journalists have a job to do, and that's why
01:48I have fronted up. That's why I have fronted up each and every time to take on a lot of
01:53the tough questions and I will continue to do so.
01:55Whether she and other leaders have given the answers voters are seeking will become clearer
02:00on Saturday.
