00:00A group of contract doctors approaching the end of seven years in public service have
00:07been told to prepare to leave unless notified otherwise by the authorities.
00:13These doctors, who were initially offered a three-year houseman contract in 2016, have
00:18since received two extensions, with most contracts ending this year.
00:22They have all applied to be reabsorbed into government service under the new interim contract
00:28system but the results have been delayed.
00:31According to Senator Dr. R. A. Lingeswaran, a doctor in Penang was forced to stop working
00:37after his contract expired.
00:39Lingeswaran questioned why the health ministry was not finding ways to retain these doctors
00:45during a time when many are quitting.
00:47Meanwhile, a father of a doctor said his daughter was informed by the ministry that her service
00:53will end on November 24 unless she is told otherwise.
00:58She was previously offered a permanent position in Sabah last year but was unable to take
01:03it up due to pregnancy-related travel restrictions.
01:07Her appeal was later rejected by the health ministry.
