00:09Gareth Southgate as the full-time manager but this week there have been reports that the FA

00:14have sounded out Pep Guardiola over potentially taking the role next year. So how realistic is it

00:20that the greatest coach of his generation could soon be in charge of the Three Lions?

00:25Well in recent years we've seen more of a divergence really between the top club managers

00:30and the top international managers but Guardiola has long talked about his interest in going into

00:36international management at some point in his career and we know that it won't be with Spain

00:40because of the political situation there. Remember Guardiola is a staunch supporter

00:45of Catalan independence. So could it be the England job he was asked about in an interview

00:50in Italy last week where I suppose encouragingly for the FA he ruled nothing in and nothing out?

00:57He certainly fits the bill in terms of what the FA are looking for, both a coach with a proven

01:02history of delivering trophies and also one with an intimate understanding of the English game

01:07which given Guardiola's time in the Premier League would mark him out from previous foreign

01:12appointments like Sven-Goran Eriksson and Fabio Capello. Guardiola's salary could potentially be

01:18a major stumbling block at Man City. It's believed he earns around four times the five

01:23million pounds that Gareth Southgate was on per year when he was in charge of the England side

01:28but Guardiola's future at City is uncertain. His contract expires next summer and while the club

01:34would love to keep him on he is yet to make a decision amid all sorts of uncertainty at the

01:39Etihad around City's legal battle with the Premier League. So it's perhaps not the huge long shot

01:47that you might have imagined it to be even what six months ago and maybe there's a sense

01:51that the stars could be aligning for the FA to make what would be a remarkable appointment

01:56after Karsny's interim spell is done.
