00:00Welcome to a look at the weather for
00:01the week ahead from the Met Office.
00:03Something of a north-south split
00:05with the weather this week.
00:06And yes, there are signs of
00:08something resembling summer
00:10returning to the south as
00:11temperatures start to rise,
00:12particularly later in the week.
00:14Whereas further north, it's often
00:16going to be quite breezy this week
00:18with further showers to come.
00:20This kind of tells the story.
00:21The pressure pattern for the next
00:22five days, high pressure,
00:24the dominant feature across the
00:25south, low pressure,
00:27the dominant feature across the
00:29north with weather fronts swinging
00:30by, bringing bands of showers and
00:32the ice bars often squeezing
00:34together as well, telling us
00:35it's often going to be quite
00:37gusty.
00:37So, yes, it is a bit of a
00:39north-south split.
00:40But in the south, we could see some
00:41warmer weather.
00:42Question marks come the weekend
00:44about when this weather front
00:45swings through and whether it
00:47gets rid of any warmer weather
00:48across the south.
00:49But that's all to come.
00:51Let's rewind and go back
00:53and break down the days day by
00:54day. Looking at Tuesday, first
00:56of all, we've got a couple of
00:57weather fronts bringing thicker
00:59cloud initially over southwest
01:00Scotland, northwest England with
01:02some showers.
01:03They'll move into northeast
01:04England and across central and
01:05southern Scotland.
01:06Next, weather fronts introducing
01:08more cloud to Wales and southwest
01:09England after a bright start and
01:11also clouding over in Northern
01:12Ireland with some showers here.
01:14In between, though, we should see
01:15some sunshine on Tuesday and the
01:17winds will be a bit lighter than
01:18Monday's values.
01:19So in that sunshine, feeling
01:21pleasant enough, temperatures
01:22again in the high teens or maybe
01:24low 20s.
01:26Now, as you move through Tuesday
01:27night and into Wednesday, high
01:29pressure continues to dominate
01:30across the south.
01:31But we are focusing in again on
01:33low pressure further north and
01:34this weather front in particular.
01:35That's going to bring a band of
01:37wet weather into the northwest
01:39as the day goes on and the ice
01:40above squeezing together.
01:41So the winds will be picking up
01:43as well.
01:44Initially, though, it's a case of
01:46dodging the showers over Wales,
01:48northern England and Scotland.
01:49Some of them could be heavy and
01:50then they're kind of joined by
01:52this band of wet and windy weather
01:53swinging in.
01:54Notice, though, across the south,
01:56not too many showers here and
01:58with a bit of brightness,
01:59temperatures could again get into
02:00the low 20s, whereas it will be
02:01feeling quite a bit cooler as
02:03that wet and windy weather sweeps
02:05into the northwest.
02:07This weather front then continues
02:08to head its way across the
02:09country, but it will be fizzling
02:11out as it bumps up against that
02:12area of high pressure by the time
02:14we get to Thursday.
02:16There are more weather fronts
02:17waiting to push in and notice the
02:19ice bars still fairly close
02:20together. So it's going to be
02:21blustery in the northwest on
02:23Thursday with further showers
02:25perhaps turning into more
02:26persistent rain as those weather
02:28fronts head in.
02:29For England, Wales and parts of
02:31southern Scotland, it's a case
02:33again of dodging a few showers,
02:35but much of the day will be dry
02:37and there'll be a fair bit of cloud
02:38around, but we should see some
02:39sunshine across the east and the
02:40south at times, lifting the
02:42temperatures again into the low
02:4420s. So again, quite a contrast
02:45between northwest and southeast,
02:47which will persist on Friday.
02:48Chance of a bit of mist and low
02:49cloud along the south coast
02:51through Thursday and Friday.
02:53One or two showers dotted around,
02:55but the more persistent rain
02:57is gathering once
02:59more in the northwest.
02:59That's that cold front we saw
03:01earlier on, and it does bring
03:03some question marks as we go into
03:04the weekend. High pressure is still
03:06the dominant feature.
03:07And as it shifts into Europe,
03:09well, it actually lifts
03:11southerly winds across the UK.
03:13So we will start to see the
03:15temperatures rising mid 20s
03:17by Friday, possibly a bit
03:19higher in some spots on Saturday,
03:21but there is uncertainty about the
03:22timing of that weather front.
03:24At the moment, the weekend bank
03:26holiday for many could
03:28be starting warm, but there'll
03:30be wet weather from that weather
03:31front probably pushing into the
03:33northwest and uncertainty about
03:34whether that weather front sweeps
03:35through and takes the warm weather
03:37away with it.
03:38So there's quite a bit of uncertainty
03:39after Saturday.
03:40Nothing unusual about having
03:42uncertainty this far ahead.
03:44The message at the moment, if you've
03:46got plans for the weekend, is to
03:47stay tuned to the updates.
