Louder The Soundtrack of Change Trailer HD - HBO Max Documentary - Plot synopsis: The documentary champions the brave, bold, and unapologetic actions, both sung and spoken, of some of the most iconic female musicians of all time. The film is an emotional & inspiring journey filled with stunning archival footage, revealing interviews, and personal accounts from a powerful group of fearless female artists. Exploring musicians' stories from present-day Rhiannon Giddens summoning deep-rooted emotions on a banjo, to H.E.R. processing her grief through her powerful 2020 ballad "I Can't Breathe," to Melissa Etheridge bravely coming out on TV at the peak of early 1990s homophobia, to Mickey Guyton’s present-day struggles as a Black woman in country music. Guided by esteemed journalists, including J Wortham, Puja Patel, and Clover Hope, we are also reminded of the groundbreaking women of 90s hip-hop, highlighting artists like Queen Latifah and Salt-N-Pepa, as well as an interview with Kathleen Hanna whose "Rebel Girl" reflected the rage and anger of the Riot GRRRL movement. 00:00Music is one of the most powerful ways to put a message out there.
00:07It is a painful thing to tell a dark story.
00:11But we've learned that the louder you are, the more the forces of oppression will try to silence you.
00:19It was really hard in the 90s to be a woman in a feminist band.
00:23Men were standing up and yelling, shut up and take it off.
00:27In gangster rap, you had songs like, a bitch is a bitch.
00:30Queen Latifah was pushing back against this dominant archetype.
00:35Chaka Khan, she was the blueprint.
00:38You have to fearlessly go into this madness, and you have to find your walk.
00:43I have seen the world change and grow.
00:46But today, it seems like things are going backwards.
00:52Music is more powerful now than ever because it's an example where people come together.
00:56What do I owe the women who came before me?
00:58I think we have a responsibility.
01:00We can't right the loss.
01:02Maybe we can inspire the people who do.
01:05The fights that we're in can be overwhelming, and we lose the thread.
01:09Music lets us find it again.
01:11Your song, I Am Woman, it suggests an aggressiveness.
01:14It's a positive statement, okay? Positive.
01:18A lot of women before us paved the way to be as loud and proud as possible.
