00:00It's a big day in the Edgewater neighborhood of Chicago.
00:05Feel the rumble. Tucked between the lake and the railroad tracks,
00:11Bucolic Edgewater offers a wooded respite from the hustle and bustle of Chicago.
00:16I'm gonna start a landscaping company one day called Beautiful Chaos.
00:20And that's good for the soil, good for the biodiversity, good for the human eye,
00:24for the human mind. Louie, what do you think about this car? You like the El Camino, Louie?
00:29It's like a celebration, because this is the last time we're going to the house.
00:33Right, yeah, exactly. We want to roll up in style with the little pizazz.
00:40Tim and Lisa's is now home to more than 50 different species of native Illinois plants.
00:46The bullet's right...
00:55Oh yeah, they don't make cones like they used to, man. We gotta...
00:59We'll compensate. It's okay, you know.
01:05It's a little thin, it's a little light. We gotta pack it in.
01:07To my taste, yeah. We're gonna pack it in, make it dense.
01:10Four by four area of prairie has got 70 individual plants in it.
01:15This is showy goldenrod. This is the kind of goldenrod you gotta say,
01:18hey pal, calm down, okay? You know, this ain't about you.
01:23Well, look at this. And since this is the sand, don't touch these.
01:28The Illinois native cactus, Opuntia humifusa. This thing's blazing hot, son.
01:33So maybe we'll put some over here. Hey, Lisa?
01:36He keeps talking about how he wants to fill it the way that a true prairie looks.
01:42All right, I like the chaos of the prairie. I don't like the even spacing,
01:45and I'm not knocking Ben. I adore the hell out of him. But we're gonna just go in there
01:49and mix it up a little bit. And if he's mad, I'll apologize later and buy him a cake or something.
01:53But right now, we're just gonna do it anyway. So here we go.
01:56Interesting to have someone else come in and start putting plants in between the spacing
02:00and everything else I had already kind of accounted for. Gonna be really interested
02:03to see how it all comes together. Put these cacti in the ground. They're
02:05f***ing great because when they bloom, you got the little stamens inside. You could touch the
02:09stamens on the inside of the flower. You know where the pollen comes out of? And the stamens
02:12will close up. It's kind of cool. So the kids, maybe the kids will like it.
02:15There you go, yeah. Go play with the cactus.
02:20The homeowners are great sports about it. A lot of fun. They're trusting the process.
02:25We're in the right at Garden Show, where they want everything to be fake and phony,
02:28and you can have a nice reveal. We can say that's not how you do it. That's not real.
02:31Nature's got a different idea. It's bulls***. You know,
02:33we're not trying to lie to people, all right, unless they're authority figures.
