00:00Dylan O'Brien is opening up about the safety concerns he had on the set of The Maze Runner
00:05just before the near-fatal injury he sustained on set.
00:08In 2016, O'Brien was shooting the third installment in The Maze Runner franchise when he was pulled
00:16off the top of a moving vehicle unexpectedly while wearing a harness and hit by another
00:21vehicle.
00:22This resulted in the actor sustaining serious injuries.
00:25The Saturday Night Star looked back at the life-changing incident during a recent interview
00:29with Men's Health, saying,
00:31"...I've approached everything differently, you could say, particularly with regard to
00:35standing my ground on set.
00:36It's very commonplace in the culture for young actors to be controlled, and the way they
00:40strive to do that is by always being like, oh, don't become difficult.
00:44Don't be a pain in the ass."
00:46Following his incident, the Teen Wolf alum said he's learned to stand his ground on set.
00:50"...Don't let them manipulate you into thinking that is being difficult, because I can look
00:54at that day and know I was a 24-year-old kid who was raising concerns about how we were
00:58approaching things, and they were not listened to, they were not respected.
01:01And then what happened, happened."
01:03He continued,
01:04"...I know I'm not difficult.
01:05I know I'm not an asshole.
01:06I know I was trying to protect myself that day, and so I've just never forgotten that.
01:10That's always rung true as being the thing to hold with me."
