00:00A nursing home built a Cancer Survivor in Garcia Hernandez, Zabuhol
00:06who is being helped by some students who are having a hard time with their daily trips to school.
00:12This is what Noel Talacay has to say.
00:16A former OFW in Kenya and Breast Cancer Survivor,
00:21Bienvenido wanted to make a change in the community before he left the world.
00:27That's why he volunteered in Kapit Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services
00:36or Kalahi SEEDS of the Department of Social Welfare and Development or DSWD.
00:41I grabbed the opportunity because once you realize that you can watch on TV
00:50about people with cancer, right?
00:52So you're thinking,
00:54will I die?
00:56So what's the point of my life if I don't have a service in society?
01:01His story is hard for the students of Barangay Abihilan,
01:06Municipality of Garcia Hernandez, Zabuhol, their daily trips to school.
01:12Before, as I said before, they spent P800 to P1,000 for a motorcycle for a month.
01:24Some of them can't go to school because of flooding.
01:28Or they already went to school,
01:30but when it rains in the afternoon, they can't go home.
01:33It's lucky if a student's family has money.
01:37Tiredness and hours are the reason for them to go to school.
01:42Before, they wake up at 5 in the morning to walk.
01:48Now, it's not like that anymore.
01:50That's why he came up with the idea of building a house
01:53with two-cylinder engine,
01:55and the seeds of DSWD will be used by more than 20 students
02:03in every grade 9 and 10
02:05who don't have to wake up early to go to school.
02:11This project of Bienvenido
02:13is one of the accomplishments of the seeds of DSWD.
02:17It also encourages our youth to go back to school
02:22because the government's service is getting closer to them.
02:26She also assured that there will be no duplication of their projects
02:30under the seeds of DSWD.
02:32We have a negative piece that if it's unfunded by these agencies
02:37or even the DSWD itself,
02:39it can't be identified as a project of the communities.
02:44The program of the seeds of DSWD has been in place for 20 years.
02:49It has a long-term goal to help the poor communities
02:53so that they can be better and prosperous
02:56by fulfilling their needs.
03:00The project is benefiting the members of the community
03:04and is funded by the seeds of DSWD
03:08and foreign grants like the World Bank.
