00:00Hello there, these are the United Colors of Democracy
00:04in Jammu and Kashmir, a union territory,
00:06formerly a state, which was waiting with bated breath
00:11to see the light of a chosen government.
00:14We have the data from 1996 to 2002, 2008, 2014,
00:20and then jumped 10 years to 2024, where we are as of now.
00:24And as I said, the United Colors of Democracy,
00:27look at the screen here, JKP, DP, BJP, JKNC,
00:32Congress, Independence, and others,
00:34all of them flanking this arc that we are showing you,
00:38which shows the results of the current assembly election,
00:43the recently concluded one.
00:44Let's take a look at the single largest party,
00:48Jammu and Kashmir National Conference,
00:49with 41 seats in coalition with Congress,
00:53with six seats, taking it comfortably
00:56beyond the half a mark of 46,
00:59in order to form the government
01:01in a 90-member assembly in Jammu and Kashmir.
01:05The second largest party, being the BJP,
01:08not bad a performance, 29 seats there.
01:11Results a bit fluctuating here and there,
01:13plus, minus one or two seats is happening,
01:15but the final results mostly would be on the same lines.
01:19Then we have Independence, which is seventh,
01:22the role played by these Independents,
01:23very important as far as the resurgence
01:27of democratic setup and the electoral process
01:31in Jammu and Kashmir is concerned.
01:32And at the end, four others,
01:35party is managing to get four seats,
01:38and JKP, DP, which is the People's Democratic Party,
01:43and the Mehbooba Mufti's party getting three seats.
01:47This is how 2024 looks like.
01:49Shifting focus to 2014, this is the number,
01:53how it is stacked up as of now.
01:54You would see PDP had a lion's share of 28 seats,
01:59then comes the BJP with 25 seats,
02:02and remember, there was a coalition between these two.
02:05Then came JKNC 15, so from 15 to 41 in 10 years,
02:11the Abdullahs have clearly improved their image.
02:14Congress, with 12 seats there,
02:16this time around only seven, not bad still,
02:20with the resurgence of the Abdullahs,
02:22and then Independents three and four others,
02:25not many change, much change there.
02:282008, this is how it looks.
02:30Once again, there we see National Conference,
02:33the biggest, single biggest party, 28 seats.
02:37That was the time when Farooq Abdullah
02:38was the Chief Minister, Congress 17 seats.
02:42Then we have PDP 21, so the principal opposition party
02:45was the PDP, BJP at that time back in 2008,
02:50not big a difference, not big a performer
02:53with getting maximum number of seats from Jammu.
02:59Independent force and like that.
03:0122 years ago, in 2002, this was the scenario.
03:06If we take a look at it, look at the red dots here.
03:08Once again, JKNC with 28 seats, PDP with 16.
03:14Congress, in close terms with the JKNC,
03:1820 seats and Independents 13.
03:21Again, 2002, very important year,
03:24and 13 Independents, that speaks volumes.
03:281996, why we are going so back in history,
03:32for many would say, because the state of Jammu and Kashmir
03:38is very crucial when it comes to electoral processes
03:41and with militancy, with the terrorists
03:44from across the border, holding election in itself,
03:48let alone people coming out to vote is a big challenge.
03:51How it has improved over the years.
03:53Look at 1996, all the red dots giving you 57 seats
03:57for JKNC, National Conference, the Abdullah's party,
04:02and needless to say, in a setup of 90 seats,
04:0757 for JKNC speaks volumes.
04:10PDP at that time was not even in existence, it appears.
04:13BJP still managing to get eight seats there.
04:16Congress managing seven and others with 13 seats
04:21had managed to garner some support back in 1996.
04:26So this was how it looked in 1996, 2002, 2008, 2014,
04:31and then 2024 is how the electioneering has been
04:37in this state often referred to as paradise on earth,
04:42Kashmir, and what achievement, what a momentous scenario,
04:48not just for the election commission,
04:49but also for the general people of Jammu and Kashmir
04:52for have been able to go out and vote
04:55and choose their own government.
04:57Don't miss out.
