00:00General Santos City is known as the tuna capital of the Philippines and when visiting the city,

00:07it would be foolish to skip the joys and healthful benefits of eating tuna.

00:10Here in Gensan, tuna is everywhere in the market, constituting a huge part of the city's

00:15economy.

00:16According to Marlon, who has been selling tuna for 20 years, tuna has helped his family

00:20a lot.

00:29He said there are times sales are weak but with the month of December is approaching,

00:33he expects a bigger profit.

00:34From here, the city further strengthens its tourism sector by expanding their tourism

00:38portfolio.

00:39We are going beyond tuna.

00:40The tuna industry is becoming a landmark for Gensan Espresso Tourism.

00:50So we are venturing towards medical tourism, fun farms.

00:56We have several sites here for farm tourism.

00:59In addition, they want to promote the city's medical tourism.

01:02He stressed, there are a number of hospitals in the city that can provide the necessary

01:06medical services.

01:07Gensan also serves as a gateway to the Soxergen region because of its airport and seaport.

01:12It is a win-win for the local government to strengthen other aspects of the city's tourism

01:16industry.

01:17To maximize being the gateway, we have our MICE facilities.

01:21So we have facilities for meetings, incentives, conferences, conventions, expositions, exhibits.

01:28Now Gensan is becoming to be a host of diversified industries.

01:35Now we are hosting already a lot of service industries, financial industries, retail industries,

01:43manufacturing industries, and now the recent boom means our health facilities.

01:50He added, the contribution of tourism to the city's economy is estimated at around

01:5430-40%.

01:55Likewise, its contribution to the overall tourism of the region is substantial as the

02:00city serves as a gateway to other nearby tourist sites.

02:02Also, the LGU plans to ultimately transform into a smart and sustainable city.

02:07Last year, the city recorded 1.5 million tourist arrivals while tourism receipts hit 1.9 billion

02:12pesos.

02:13And for this year, the city targets to reach 1.7 million tourist arrivals.
