00:06It's actually a very good and moving script,

00:09and I say this as someone who's horrid about scripts.

00:12This was brilliant, because Helen Fielding, who wrote these books,

00:16she had a sad story.

00:18She got married to an American screenwriter, she had children,

00:21then he died, and she raised the children by herself,

00:24and then she started writing a novel about a woman raising children

00:27by herself with a dead father or husband,

00:30realised the main character was a bit like Bridget,

00:33so made it into a Bridget Jones book.

00:35And as well as being extremely funny, it's very, very sad.

00:39But absolutely no role for Daniel Cleaver, as far as I could see.

00:44But they wanted to cram me in,

00:46so we sat down together and invented a preposterous...
