00:00October means the start of spooky season, and plenty of us will be getting into the
00:07Halloween mood. So we're here in Cwmbran on a very normal street to see something that's
00:12apparently very not normal. This old chapel dotted amongst some usual looking houses has
00:18a secret that is officially written into the deeds of the property. You wouldn't think
00:24it just walking up this street, all the normal houses, children playing, that this house
00:30has some real dark secrets. In the past it's been up for auction and sold, but it was put
00:38up again recently and failed to sell. The auctioneers told me that there is some interest
00:42so it might be sold in the future, but in its past there are some very strange parts
00:46to the tale of the old chapel. It looks like it has history, it's believed it was built
00:52way back in the 17th century which would make it roughly 400 years old. It's got a
00:57graveyard out the front and the inside has seen better days. Centuries ago it served
01:01as a centre for Welsh non-conformist Christians and would have sit relatively alone without
01:06the area around being built yet. When you take a look into the details of the chapel
01:12though you'll learn that on the grounds of this property apparently lives an apparition,
01:17the Black Hound of the Underworld. And what makes it all the more strange is that the
01:24fact that if you take a look at the deed to the house the Black Hound of the Underworld
01:29is written into the official documents, something that certainly doesn't happen all too much
01:34in real estate law. So if you're buying this old chapel you might be buying a whole lot
01:39more too. The story goes that the old vicar of the church was up late one night and he
01:49could hear the sounds of an animal outside, so he looked into the darkness of the surrounding
01:53woodland to check what was there. And he was then faced with a dog and he knew that it
02:00was after him. Legend says that when the dog ran towards him the vicar struck him between
02:05the eyes with his Bible and the mythological dog apparently burst into flames and disappeared,
02:11leaving the vicar intact except his beard was burned off. It's a good story and who
02:17knows how much truth there is to it, but if you're looking at it from a legal stance then
02:21the Black Hound of the Underworld is well and truly part of the chapel. Nowadays it
02:29is all a little bit more light-hearted and there's planning permission for a nursery
02:33on the property, extra parking over the top of the graveyard or could be turned into a
02:38single dwelling house with some heavy renovation necessary. There's a kitchen area, a few rooms
02:44inside, and the building itself is really quite pretty and quaint. It failed to be sold
02:49at auction recently so it is still available if you're brave enough to suffer the consequences
02:54of the Black Hound of the Underworld.
