00:00God began its work 33 years ago with maternal and child health.
00:17Soon enough we realized that only providing health would not even create a dent in people's
00:24life, especially the poor people's life.
00:27We have various programs, from maternal and child health services, we went on to community
00:32based rehabilitation of the poor with the maila mandal.
00:36What's your name?
00:40Look here.
00:42No.
00:44When she was a year old, I started to notice that her physical growth and behavior were
00:49not at par with other children of her age.
00:52Hence I decided to get her medical checkup done.
00:55She was diagnosed with Down syndrome.
01:00CODS community based rehabilitation program facilitates dignified integration of differently
01:05abled into the society.
01:10Her ailment was diagnosed at an early age and we started her treatment immediately.
01:15She underwent surgery and therapies but nothing came of it.
01:21Initially I would look around people going about their lives normally and felt myself
01:26to be the odd one and disadvantaged.
01:29But things changed after joining CODS.
01:32It felt good.
01:33Honey.
01:34Honey.
01:35Oh, that's one beautiful name.
01:38Doctors advised me to foster in her a normal upbringing and spend time with her.
01:43I would also research and study online about how to raise and care for her.
01:48CODS provides accessibility, education and vocational training to the differently abled,
01:54which in turn expediates their self-employment.
01:59She does designer embroidery at home and she's really good at it.
02:03I'm able to do daily chores such as folding clothes, brooming, etc.
02:10So you want to learn computers?
02:12Yes.
02:13Just like they do at formal school, where learning is much more fun as compared to learning
02:18at home.
02:20In which grade do you study?
02:225th May.
02:235th May.
02:245th May?
02:25Soon after being associated with CODS, I was made the resource person.
02:29We hold regular meetings where I guide parents on how they should be with their children.
02:35I am very grateful to Dr. Maitreyi for finding an organisation of this noble kind.
