This team is the first to use feathers as sustainable insulation materials. Their first product is Pluumo, a sustainable thermal packaging material designed to replace expanded polystyrene used during food deliveries.

00:00First of all, it's tackling the issue of the millions of tons of waste feather generated

00:15every year.

00:16Secondly, it's also replacing traditional insulators, plastics like expanded polystyrene

00:22or styrofoam as it's also called.

00:43We created Plumo, the world's first sustainable thermal packaging material made from waste

00:48feathers.

00:50The primary material that we're using is obviously waste feather.

00:53We combine that with a small amount of an ecobinder and then we cover the whole thing

00:57with a compostable outer lining.

01:01Feathers are an amazing natural resource, strong, lightweight and thermally insulating

01:05and we came up with the idea of using them for their thermal properties to create sustainable

01:10thermal packaging material.

01:13Plumo is sustainable because it's primarily made from waste material but it's also designed

01:17to be compostable and we're looking at reuse cases whereby how do we get them back from

01:22end users and turn old Plumo packaging into new Plumo packaging again.

01:35The next steps for Aeropowder mainly come down to the fact that we have proven that

01:39Plumo works here.

01:41We want to create sustainable materials anywhere in the world wherever there are feathers.
