More than 800,000 undeclared cigarettes stopped by ABF since July

The Australian Border Force is warning international travellers attempting to smuggle illicit tobacco into Australia that they will be caught, after more than 8000,000 undeclared cigarettes have been intercepted since July 2024.

00:10Since the 1st of July 2024, ABF officers have intercepted 24 passengers smuggling over 800,000

00:18undeclared cigarettes, evading more than $1 million in duty at Australian airports.

00:24As recently as the 7th of September 2024, ABF officers intercepted four Japanese nationals

00:29trying to smuggle 141,015 cigarettes in their luggage through Brisbane International Airport.

00:37In all cases, ABF officers seized the cigarettes, cancelled the travellers' visas and removed

00:42the offenders from Australia at their own expense.
