00:00I made 24 cents an hour total, but I, for like the first 10 years, and I was willing
00:11to do that.
00:12I know that if I keep doing this, there's no way I couldn't make it.
00:30Whenever I was younger, we were very, very like, we were very poor, and we couldn't afford
00:36most of the time, some of our utilities, we would either have the gas and electric, or
00:42like the water on.
00:50I was like, you know what, I don't want to like deal with drugs.
00:52It was like really bad in my area.
00:55Like I was going to church a lot.
00:57The heat was off in our house, it was winter.
01:00I took a shower, wrapped like a little towel around the shower head, so it came out as
01:05one stream, and then like would dive in it and stuff like that, and clean myself off.
01:14She literally came one Sunday with like a gift box at the end of the service, the pastor
01:19had just got done, walked it up to the front of the church, and presented it to me.
01:22And I said, hey, we've seen that you've been working on music all the time, and we see
01:28that it basically helps you, and that you want to do it.
01:35It would become my sanctuary, because I had a computer there, and I had something to give,
01:41and I had something I could build towards.
01:44So I moved to L.A. with 700 bucks, and no plan.
01:58I waited till the start of the next semester, and I took all of my refund check, and my
02:05book money, and all of that, and blew it on recording equipment.
02:10I had one friend, and we were parked right outside of his house.
02:14I said, yo, I really feel like I could do something with this music.
02:21I spent all of my time doing it, and I feel like I could be good at it.
02:26And he looked at me dead in my face and said, bro, don't waste your life.
02:36Don't waste your time on this music stuff, because you're not that good.
02:53The funny thing about our name, Social House, is it was just the name of the Wi-Fi at the house.
03:01But it adequately described everything that was going on.
03:04It was really social.
03:07It would be parties downstairs every day, and there would be YouTubers, and actors,
03:13and musicians, and different artists that would come through.
03:34I was like, you have to hear this.
03:41And Scooter's like, can it wait?
03:43I'm in a meeting.
03:44She's like, no.
03:45And he was like, all right, and comes in, listens to the song, and as soon as it's done,
03:50he tells them, yo, get them in here right now.
03:54Say, hey, guys, you've got to get over here to SB.
03:58Scooter Brown wants to see you.
04:00And we're like, why?
04:03What's going on?
04:04So we go there, and literally that day, they were like, we want to sign you guys.
04:14Because the thing is, I think a lot of people don't realize that you have to fall in love with the work.
04:20It's that pain.
04:21It's that work.
04:22It's that drive that has to push you there.
04:25And so we actually really enjoyed the process of failing at songs and learning what people like.
04:33And everything you do, every goal that you have, every achievement that you really think is valuable,
04:42comes with a lot of hard work.
04:44It comes with a big amount of dedication.
04:46If you look at somebody who's in the gym a lot, they have to put an incredible amount of dedication.
04:51They change their diet.
04:52They change what they do on their off days.
04:54They change when they go to sleep because they have a goal.
04:57And you have to fall in love with the things that are tied to your goal.
05:01You really do.
05:02You have to fall in love with the hard work.
05:04You have to fall in love with the new restrictions.
05:06You have to fall in love with it.
05:08You have to push past everything you're used to.
05:10Stay up.
05:11You have to try.
05:12You have to fail.
05:13That's the only way to get out is to pursue it as hard as you can.
