00:04Joe Biden called on residents living in Hurricane Helene's path to evacuate if they could

00:09after the storm upgraded to a Category 4 hurricane

00:12before making landfall in the Big Bend area.

00:15Everyone needs to take it seriously, extremely seriously.

00:19The potential storm surge is well beyond the immediate path of the hurricane.

00:23It could be significant and deadly.

00:26The fast-moving storm already produced sustained winds of over 215 kilometers an hour,

00:32cutting power to hundreds of thousands of homes and businesses

00:36and sending massive waves crashing onto highways.

00:39The U.S. National Weather Service warned the hurricane could bring life-threatening floods,

00:44landslides and storm surges.

00:46Yet despite mandatory evacuation orders issued by state officials,

00:51some Florida residents decided to ride out the storm.

00:55I got faith and I trust in my faith that God's gonna keep me safe.

01:00Others decided to leave at the last minute.

01:03I'm on ground level.

01:04So when I saw the floodwaters already halfway up to my house,

01:08I thought, man, I need to go.

01:10Florida is expected to bear the brunt of the storm,

01:13but forecasters warn damage could extend far beyond the coast,

01:18potentially wreaking havoc in Georgia, South Carolina and beyond.
