Conditions rapidly deteriorate in Tallahassee as Helene nears landfall

Rain and wind picked up very quickly in the hour before Helene's landfall, as AccuWeather's Ali Reid showed live on AccuWeather.

00:07Things have gone down here very quickly as we told you it would Allie. It will get far worse here in the next two hours

00:19Bernie the first thing I was gonna mention to you was does it look a little different behind me the rain now starting to come

00:25down the wind certainly starting to pick up here in Tallahassee and

00:30Things are going to start to change over the next few hours as Helene makes landfall

00:35Now we are on Park Avenue right now a very picturesque

00:39Beautiful area here in Tallahassee lights along the trees here, but I want to point your direction to the street

00:44I think that's important to mention that is because there are with the wind moving now as quickly as it is and coming in fast

00:51To this area you'll start to notice that along the street as well now in this particular area

00:57There are a number of oak trees and as we've heard governor Ron DeSantis mentioned in his press conference earlier this afternoon

01:04And just with local officials all throughout this area the major concern here

01:08Is that with how tall and how old some of these oak trees are that could potentially be a major?

01:15Problem here for those that live in this area

01:17I've been mentioning it constantly because it is a big concern anyone that lives in a mobile home or manufactured home is also going to

01:25Have a number of issues it was a mandatory evacuation yesterday through 8 o'clock this morning for anyone living in those homes

01:32To seek shelter an alternate shelter whether that be leaving this area altogether or going to one of the government

01:39Designated shelters in this area a lot of the high schools across Leon County have now opened up

01:44For anyone that needs to be in a different location

01:46And last check a couple of thousand of people are now in those shelters across this entire County here again the big thing now

01:55As Helene starts to move in gets closer to Tallahassee in the next couple of hours

02:01We are going to see that rain and wind really start to pick up and Bernie and Jeff again

02:06That is exactly what we are seeing in Tallahassee right now Bernie
