00:00The peach state of Georgia in the southern part of the union has long been ruby-red country.

00:05Until then-Democratic president candidate Joe Biden flipped it in 2020 by a razor-thin margin

00:12of 11,780 votes. And the Trump campaign, with help from the state's wildly popular governor,

00:20is confident to win back and return Georgia to its red and Republican stronghold status

00:25in November, as we hear more from VOA's Cain Faribault.

00:32Georgia Governor Brian Kemp and Vice Presidential nominee J.D. Vance shared the stage at a recent

00:38dinner, a show of Republican Party unity, after years of discord between Kemp and former president

00:43Donald Trump. We're going to start all over. Atlanta voter Dorothy Harp is not concerned

00:48about Trump's feud with Kemp over the 2020 election, which Trump falsely says he won

00:52in Georgia. She's more concerned about the economy. We had lower prices on our food, gas,

00:59energy costs. Everything was better under the Trump administration.

01:03It's a message Harp takes door to door, encouraging members of her community to vote.

01:08And I've got a lot of young voters who said they're going to vote for Trump.

01:12In the 2020 election, Joe Biden defeated Trump in Georgia by just over 11,000 votes

01:18out of nearly five million cast. Numbers Georgia's Republican Governor Kemp knows well,

01:23as he implored audience members, including Harp, to vote.

01:27So we cannot take anything for granted. We cannot take our foot off the gas.

01:32Georgia is fully in play again. Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens, a Democrat,

01:37says polls show another close race this year between Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris.

01:43People sometimes get disenfranchised by thinking that their vote doesn't matter,

01:47but we have to go out there and make sure everyone knows that their vote does matter.

01:51Listen, every vote counts. Elijah Grace is with the voter

01:55advocacy organization, the New Georgia Project Action Fund,

01:58whose workers go door to door to promote voter registration.

02:02We specialize in targeting black and brown people across the state, making sure that

02:07they have all the resources that's needed to cast their ballot.

02:10A 2020 Pew Research Center study showed Georgia's eligible black voting population

02:15made up a third of the state's total electorate. Exit polls in 2020 showed 88 percent of black

02:20voters chose Biden. But recent polls show Democrats losing ground in this close contest.

02:26Both sides understand that roads lead through Georgia.

02:30When the race was between Biden and Trump,

02:32Grace noticed a lack of enthusiasm among potential voters.

02:36And since the Democratic ticket has changed, we have seen

02:39a strong uptick in support for Vice President Kamala Harris.

02:43She's at the intersection of color and gender.

02:47Bernice King, daughter of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.,

02:51believes Harris appeals to voters previously considering sitting on the sidelines.

02:55Frankly, just speaking as a woman, you know, I think this is a season where we're seeing

03:00more and more women emerge in the critical places of leadership.

03:04Leadership is motivating Harp to back Trump, and she's working to bring

03:08others along with her as Republicans focus on inflation and cost of living concerns.

03:13I have already committed to taking some of the people I know to the polls. I said,

03:17if you ain't got a way to get there, I'll get you there.

03:20Polls open in Georgia for early voting on October 15th.
