Louisiana bracing for looming tropical threat

Just a few weeks removed and recovering from the effects of Hurricane Francine, Louisiana state officials are now preparing for another storm expected to impact the region as a hurricane this week.

00:00As you know, Southeastern Louisiana is recovering from the effects of Hurricane Francine right

00:06now, but in Louisiana, we always have to keep an eye on the Gulf.

00:10We're urging residents to be ready and to have a plan for emergencies.

00:16And Hurricane Francine, you mentioned that just a few seconds ago, hit Louisiana less

00:21than two weeks ago.

00:23Is the cleanup still continuing?

00:26And do you feel as if residents have been able to fully recover from that hurricane?

00:32Right now, that is the strongest hurricane to make landfall in the United States this

00:36season.

00:38Yes, recovery is going very well.

00:43You know, our biggest trouble was electricity outages, and that was recovered pretty quickly.

00:49Now it's just cleaning out homes and repairing businesses and getting back to life in Louisiana.

00:56Well, September is National Preparedness Month.

00:59So what are you encouraging residents to do to be prepared for any emergency or any big

01:05weather event?

01:07Well, our obvious message is get a game plan in Louisiana.

01:11We have two platforms, the getagameplan.org website and our Get A Game Plan app, which

01:19was recently battle tested during Francine.

01:23These platforms allow you to access emergency information on the go and prepare prior to

01:30an emergency.

01:32You can prepare emergency plans that are customized and review Louisiana Emergency Preparedness

01:39Guide and get up to date information about evacuations.
