German robot maker takes on Chinese rivals

Neura Robotics develops humanoid robots with highly complex skills. The company's founder sees Germany as a potential leader in AI technology and is not even worried about China as a competitor.

00:16Developer David Reger sells his AI-powered machines around the globe, including to China.

00:32I'd say we just have to move faster in Germany, develop technologies that allow us to keep

00:42After all, that is what has made Germany, developing technologies for the entire world.

00:53It's the combination of proprietary AI software, design and many, many sensors that make these

01:00robots work so well.

01:02The machine can balance this ball, coming real close to human skills.

01:08And they're even learning to make a breakfast sandwich.

01:12Household helpers have become a major market as skilled employees are getting more scarce.

01:22That's where we as German companies can be leading.

01:24We don't want to miss out on that market, we're currently in a top position.

01:30So take this mouse, the machine follows voice and other commands.

01:35It makes programming easier.

01:37Really, the robot doesn't care what exactly he's handling, he just does it.

01:43Like now, he even feels when he's put it down.

01:49The company has 260 employees from 35 countries.

01:54Among them is a software developer from India.

01:57Yeah, like in India, currently, as far as I know, we have the very least number of companies

02:06who are manufacturing robots.

02:08So for NeurA, this is also the best place or the best opportunity.

02:12We can also set up something in India such that we can either sell robots or we can maybe

02:18manufacture a robot over there and sell over there.

02:22So from a business opportunity perspective, India is currently a big market.

02:28By 2030, the company wants to build 5 million robots.

02:33This year, they're expecting revenues of 50 million euros.

02:36David Reger says that robotics might one day surpass the auto industry as Germany's leading

02:42business sector.
