Will humanoid robots be able to drive in the future? Researchers at the University of Tokyo are testing how well a robot fitted with advanced sensor and AI systems can handle the task.

00:10and react to the change of a traffic light or a person stepping onto the road.

00:18Researchers at a university in Japan's capital, Tokyo, have developed the robot Musashi.

00:25It has a human-like skeleton, muscles and force sensors in its hands and feet.

00:31With 74 artificial muscles and 39 joints,

00:35it can apply the handbrake, activate the blinker or step on the gas.

00:43Musashi is still a long way from being an alternative to humans.

00:48So far, the robot is only able to drive across the test site at 5 km per hour.

00:54But in the future, it should be able to drive any car.

00:58And scientists assume that a robot like Musashi will be much cheaper than a self-driving car.
