05:49It's okay
05:52Oh, that tickles
05:55Colleen, you only have one hand
05:57Uh-huh, that's how I was born
05:59But it isn't any problem
06:01Oh, it sure isn't
06:02Colleen can do anything she wants to
06:05In fact, she's been a great helper for me all morning
06:08Oh, Uncle Grady

06:12I thought your first name was Mister
06:15Grady Boyd is my name
06:18And taking care of the park is my job
06:20And I'd better get to it
06:21Can Colleen stay and play with us, Mr. Boyd?
06:24Well, what do you think, Colleen?
06:26Would you like to stay and play a while?
06:28Well, I guess so
06:30Well, alright then
06:31I'll be back soon
06:32Okay
06:33See you later, everyone
06:34Bye, Mr. Boyd
06:35Bye, guys
06:38Oh, boy
06:39Today, we get to do something extra special
06:43What do we get to do?
06:45Well, um, we get to make a brand new friend
06:49But sometimes it takes a little practice
06:52It does?
06:53What should we do?
06:55Well, the very first thing we need to do is easy
06:59Oh, and fun
07:03Early in the morning when I get dressed
07:07Because I always want to look my best
07:09The first thing I do, so everyone will see
07:13Is put a great big smile on me
07:16Oh, boy
07:17I put a smile on
07:20A smile on my face
07:21I put a smile on
07:23I wear it every place
07:25I put a smile on
07:27And soon I see
07:28The whole world smiling back at me
07:32Oh, now that's a happy thought
07:34A smile is pretty
07:37A smile is free
07:38A smile is a gift to you from me
07:43A smile is a present in a special way
07:45Cause you still get to keep it when you give it away
07:49Whoa!
07:50I put a smile on
07:52A smile on my face
07:54I put a smile on
07:56I wear it every place
07:57I put a smile on
07:59And soon I see
08:01The whole world smiling back at me
08:04The whole world smiling back at me
08:08All right
08:10Whoa!
08:12Oh, that's better
08:14Oh, just look at all of those happy smiles
08:17You're right, Barney
08:18It is easy
08:19And fun
08:19Oh, but there's more to making friends than just smiling
08:23The next thing that you need to do is say hello to someone in a friendly way
08:28Well, Colleen, would you please help me show everyone what I mean?
08:33Okay, what should I do?
08:35Well, just follow me
08:37Whoa!
08:38Now, we're going to pretend that we don't know each other
08:42And put on some fun dress up clothes
08:44Something like this?
08:46Oh, very nice
08:48And maybe a hat
08:49Let's see how this looks
08:51How do I look?
08:54You look great
08:54Oh, really good
08:56Barney, what are you going to wear?
08:58Oh, let's see
08:59Something back here
09:01Too flashy
09:03Too fancy
09:04Too small
09:07Too big
09:07Funny looking
09:08Oh, that's too itchy
09:12Ah, perfect!
09:15Ta-da!
09:17Oh, thank you
09:18And now, Colleen and I will practice saying hello in a friendly way
09:24Ready?
09:24Ready!
09:25Okay!
09:26Here we go
09:29One misty, moisty morning
09:31When cloudy was the weather
09:33I ran into a friend and said
09:36How nice to be together
09:38He began to compliment
09:41And I began to grin
09:42How do you do?
09:44And how do you do?
09:45And how do you do again?
09:47Whoa!
09:48So, do you all know what to do?
09:51Well, uh...
09:53Whoa!
09:54Oh, I guess you do
09:55Good!
09:56Then let's go say hello to all our new friends
10:00Okay!
10:01One misty, moisty morning
10:03When cloudy was the weather
10:05I ran into a friend and said
10:08How nice to be together
10:10He began to compliment
10:12And I began to grin
10:15How do you do?
10:16And how do you do?
10:17And how do you do?
10:18And how do you do again?
10:19How do you do?
10:21And how do you do?
10:23And how do you do again?
10:24Oh, how do you do?
10:26Oh, how do you do?
10:27And how do you do?
10:33Now that we're smiling and we've all said hello, what else do we need to know about
10:37making friends?
10:38Oh, next is one of my favorite things to do.
10:42Talking to someone new to find out all about them.
10:46Like what, Barney?
10:47Oh, well, uh, places they've been, uh, things they like to do, or anything happy.
10:53Um, Colleen, would you like to go first?
10:56Okay.
10:57Okay.
10:59I like to ride horses and I have nine toy horses in my room.
11:03So many.
11:05Oh, Mario.
11:07Last week I got a gold star on my library card for reading so many books.
11:12Mario is always reading books.
11:15Your turn, Barney.
11:17Oh, I like going to the beach and making footprints in the sand.
11:22Big footprints.
11:24That's right.
11:25And what about you, Cammie?
11:28I like to play the piano and I can play row, row, row your boat.
11:33Oh, I'd love to hear you play sometime.
11:35Um, Scott, what's something that you like?
11:38Movies.
11:39Especially funny ones.
11:40Really?
11:42Really?
11:42So do I.
11:43I like action movies.
11:44I like cartoons best.
11:46Yes.
11:46Or movies about animals.
11:49Or movies about animals.
11:49Barney, what do you like best at the movies?
11:52Oh, I could tell you.
11:54But it'll be more fun to show you.
11:58Oh, boy.
11:59What do you like?
12:00Yeah, what do you like to do?
12:03What I like best at the movies is...
12:06Oh, boy.
12:08Oh, boy.
12:18You can hear it.
12:19You can see it.
12:20You can smell it.
12:22You can eat it.
12:23You can hear it, see it, smell it, eat it, touch it, crunch it, taste it, lunch it.
12:29Popcorn is really neat.
12:31Fun to make and fun to eat.
12:34Popcorn is a pop-pop, ever bopping, never topping, Joe's topping, zany kind of treat.
12:40Oh, I love it.
12:42Oh, it's so yummy.
12:45The corn starts little, then it pops to a popping popcorn beat.
12:50Whoa.
12:51Fills the popper to the top, and then it's time to eat.
12:57Popcorn is really neat.
12:59Fun to make and fun to eat.
13:02Popcorn is a pop-pop, ever bopping, never topping, Joe's topping, zany kind of treat.
13:07Oh, you can hear it, see it, smell it, eat it, touch it, crunch it, taste it, lunch it.
13:15Popcorn is really neat.
13:17Fun to make and fun to eat.
13:20Popcorn is a pop-pop, ever bopping, never topping, Joe's topping, zany kind of treat.
13:26Whoa.
13:26It's a pop-pop, ever bopping, never topping, Joe's topping, zany kind of popcorn.
13:32All right.
13:33Nice and sunny.
13:34Yum.
13:38Thank you, Mario.
13:39Barney, I have a question.
13:41What's that, Cammie?
13:42Well, when we were talking about movies, we didn't all like the same kind.
13:46Hmm.
13:46Shouldn't friends like the same things?
13:48Well, um, friends can like the same things, but they don't have to.
13:53In fact, we can learn a lot from friends who are different.
13:57That reminds me of a story I just read.
14:00No.
14:00Told you Mario was always reading books.
14:02Oh, boy.
14:05Here it is.
14:06Oh, the story of the lion and the mouse.
14:10Oh, this is a good one.
14:12Would you please read it, Barney?
14:14Oh, I'd be delighted.
14:19Once upon a time, in a jungle deep and green, there lived a mighty lion, the strongest ever
14:28seen.
14:28And also in this jungle, way down in the grasses, lives a tiny little mouse who hides when
14:37lion passes.
14:39I'm afraid he'll eat me.
14:41Brrr!
14:42Eek!
14:44The lion caught the mouse and held his paw upon her back.
14:49You're too small for a meal, but you'll make a tasty snack.
14:54Don't eat me.
14:55I'd rather be your friend, and someday I can help you if we ever meet again.
15:00Help me?
15:02You're much too small and weak, but I think I'll let you go.
15:07Oh, thank you.
15:08Mousy squeaked.
15:10Now elsewhere in this jungle were two hunters with some rope.
15:15We'll catch a lion for the zoo.
15:17At least that's what we hope.
15:19And when the lion took his nap, the hunters quickly caught him.
15:24Oh, oh.
15:25But when they went to get their truck, the mouse crept up beside him.
15:30Lion, I will help you get away.
15:32I told you I would help you and friends do what they say.
15:35The lion said quite sadly.
15:38How can you help at all?
15:40I'm strong and mighty, but you're weak and small.
15:43And even though the lion was sure there was no hope, his eyes grew wide when Mousy started chewing on
15:51the rope.
15:55Oh, and just a moment later, the rope broke with a snap.
15:59And the lion and the mouse quickly left the hunter's trap.
16:04You did it, Mouse. Thank you very much.
16:07You're welcome. Now let's get out of here.
16:09Yeah, let's go.
16:12And somewhere in their jungle, they're still the best of friends, living happily ever after.
16:21And that's how our story ends.
16:24Good story!
16:26Oh, it is a good story.
16:28The lion and the mouse were just as different as they could be.
16:33But they still became good friends.
16:41Friends are special, so important, they make the world go round.
16:48We like helping one another in school around the playground.
16:54Friends are there to help each other when one is feeling sad.
16:59Being friends is very special.
17:03Be a friend and you'll be glad.
17:28Being friends is very special.
17:31Be a friend and you'll be glad.
17:40Oh, yes you will.
17:43I'm very glad to have new friends as nice as you are.
17:47Oh, and we feel the same way about you, Colleen.
17:50Yeah, we do.
17:51I know we do.
17:52Say, we should show Colleen more of the park.
17:55Oh.
17:55Yeah, there are lots of fun things around here.
17:58Come on over to the pond and I'll show you my toy boat.
18:01Maybe you'd rather play on the playset.
18:02It's so cool.
18:03But first you should see what we've got over in the gazebo.
18:06In the pond.
18:07What is it?
18:07Definitely the gazebo.
18:09Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
18:10Not so fast.
18:12When people are friends, they remember to take turns, right?
18:16Yeah.
18:17I guess you're right.
18:18Well, if you take turns playing with Colleen, I think she'll have a lot more fun.
18:24Oh, and you will too.
18:26Yeah.
18:27You're right.
18:28Colleen, what would you like to do first?
18:30Well, hmm, I guess I'll go to the pond with Scott, then the playset with Mario, and then we can
18:37go to the gazebo, Cammie, okay?
18:39Very okay.
18:40Sounds good to me.
18:41Me too.
18:42Oh boy, that's more like it.
18:48Oh, we take turns when we play with toys, cause that's what's right for girls and boys.
18:57Oh, we take turns when we play with toys, cause that's what's right for girls and boys.
19:01Oh, we take turns when we play with toys.
19:09Oh, we take turns when we play a game, cause that's a rule that stays the same.
19:18Oh, we take turns when we play a game, cause that's a rule that stays the same.
19:22Oh, we take turns when we play a game Oh, we take turns
19:32Oh, we take turns So we'll all have fun
19:34So we'll all have fun And we include
19:36And we include Everyone
19:38Yes, everyone Oh, we take turns so we'll all have fun

19:47Oh, now you got it
19:53Oh, boy, oh, boy That was lots of fun
19:57Sure was There really are a lot of things to do here in the park
20:00And there's even more things we can show you tomorrow
20:03Yeah But I won't be here tomorrow
20:08No You won't?
20:11No Today was the last day of our visit with Uncle Grady
20:15We've talked about maybe moving here someday
20:18But tomorrow, I'm flying home with my mom and dad
20:21But does that mean we won't be friends anymore?
20:25Oh, of course you'll still be friends
20:27It's nice to have friends you can see every day and play with
20:31But it's also nice to have friends who are far away
20:35Can you really do that?
20:37Oh, you sure can
20:39Yay!
20:41Oh, friends can stay friends by calling each other on the phone
20:45Or sending email Or by being pen pals
20:49Yeah, Colleen can be one of our pen pals
20:52Oh, right
20:52What are pen pals?
20:54We send letters and pictures to other kids and they write back to us
20:58We have pen pals all over the world
21:00Bernie, we haven't checked the mailbox today
21:03Well, let's go check it now

21:59Oh, some of our friends can be so far away
22:03And others are close to you
22:07But no matter where they are
22:09It might be near or far
22:11Just loving you is what they like to do
22:14Do, do
