00:00It is crunch time at Camden Yards as the American League playoff chase comes to Charm City.
00:12Tigers were left for dead in August, sellers at the trade deadline, but now on the cusp
00:16of a playoff spot, while the Orioles, once in a dead heat with the Yankees atop the AL
00:20East, have been fading fast over the last month.
00:24Here is Corbin Burns and his numbers, 31st start of the year for the Baltimore Aces.
00:29Well you see some of the numbers are a little bit down, the strikeouts per innings pitched
00:33are down, however the fastball and the cut fastball sees velocity up.
00:38But Corbin Burns on the mound for Baltimore, first pitch swinging for Parker Meadows has
00:43been a big part of this Detroit push, but he flies out to begin the night.
00:48Here's another good story for Detroit, they're chock full of them, Kerry Carpenter, another
00:52guy who's battled injuries.
00:54Got a check swing down, they ask for an appeal, no goal, and it's a one out walk, the Tigers
01:00getting their first base runner.
01:01One out man at first base, nothing nothing our score, and it's going to send Matt Vierling
01:06to the plate.
01:07Vierling went around, first strikeout for Burns tonight.
01:10Carpenter edges off at first, he's there with two outs now for Riley Green.
01:14The runner goes, it's outside from his knees, McCann throws, catch, tag, oh he got him!
01:18What a throw by James McCann from his knees, he guns down Carpenter trying to take second
01:24base.
01:25In Tyler Holton, and again, for Detroit, they did this a bit last Friday, they had an opener
01:31and then they had a bolt guy.
01:33Today, there's a complete mystery as to who the Tigers will select.
01:38This is the first pitch for Henderson driven to center field, Parker Meadows is underneath
01:44it, miscommunication!
01:45He gave way to Carpenter, and the ball falls for a base hit.
01:51Henderson is safe, and what a gift.
01:53Meadows and Carpenter were both there, they didn't communicate properly, and nobody took
01:58charge until eventually it was Carpenter who lunged to hit off the front part of his glove,
02:05it falls in there, and there is your first gift of the weekend, courtesy of the Tigers
02:11outfield.
02:12First pitch swinging for Austin Slater, Sweeney the rookie gobbles it up, and throws across
02:19In time, holding Henderson at second, on the ground, from Adley Rutschman, and again, Henderson
02:27has to stay put.
02:28And that'll leave it up to Anthony Santander.
02:31Santander drills one, left center, way back there, gone!
02:37Just over the .398 marker out near Mr. Splash, the birdbath getting soaked, and the Orioles
02:44taking a 2-0 lead on home run number 43 by, who else, Anthony Santander.
02:52Manuel Rivera didn't do much of anything with Miami, he was hitting barely .200 with no
02:57power, and he's put together some nice at-bats for Baltimore.
03:012-2, swing and a miss, cutter on the back door, Rivera strikes out, Orioles strike first
03:06on the Santander home run.
03:08An 8-pitch inning for Corbin Burns, and an easy 1-2-3 second inning.
03:12Kyder Montero will get the bulk of the innings here tonight for Detroit, coming off five
03:18innings of shutout work against the Orioles last week.
03:22Colton Couser, first pitch drilled, deepest part of the park, that ball is gone!
03:29Colton Couser to dead away center field, give it Blackjack, it's 21 homers, two homers for
03:35the O's in as many innings, and a 3-0 lead against Detroit.
03:40They got a little boom going in those bats today.
03:43Second walk of the game for Corbin Burns, two on, two down.
03:46We'll get left-hand hitting, Kerry Carpenter to the plate, Carpenter walked and then was
03:50thrown out by James McCann on a steal attempt.
03:54Carpenter rolls over on one, and that will end the inning.
03:57One out single here in the third of the Orioles, leading 3-0.
04:00Here's Rutschman.
04:01Swinging a high fly ball to center field, this one's deep, a playable, Meadows goes
04:05back, makes the catch onto the track.
04:08And there are two down.
04:09Here comes a hot hitter.
04:10Anthony Santander walked it off yesterday with a two-run homer in the ninth, put a jolt
04:16into the offense today with a two-run homer in the first, hit it 420 feet.
04:20Down low and he worked a walk.
04:21And now the Orioles have two on with two down.
04:24Emmanuel Rivera at the plate, struck out his first at bat.
04:27First pitch swinging, Rivera, deep center field, Meadows going back, makes the catch
04:32in front of the track, and the inning is over.
04:34The Orioles strand two, and it's still 3-0 Baltimore at the end of three.
04:39Just a six-pitch inning for Corbin Burns, who has only allowed one hit so far tonight.
04:44Kobe Mayo with a base hit.
04:46Two down.
04:47Here's the nine-hitter, James McCann.
04:48Hard hit ball for McCann, into the gap, way back there, gone!
04:54James McCann with the Orioles' third home run of the night, a two-run shot, and the
04:59Birds are up 5-0.
05:01Number six for James McCann.
05:03That was a no-doubter, and the Birds' bats are booming tonight.
05:08Three long balls.
05:09A nine-pitch inning for Burns, who has been pitching a gem tonight.
05:14His 5-1 pitch outs, eight outs on two pitches or less, and even strikeouts like that have
05:21come quickly.
05:22Seventh strikeout for Burns.
05:23Last four strikeouts all looking.
05:26Carpenter up the left field line fair, and this will dribble all the way to the corner.
05:33Stand-up double for Kerry Carpenter, with two outs in the sixth, and the first extra
05:37base hit for the Tigers here tonight.
05:39So a two-out base hit keeps the inning alive, and that'll get that beer lane to the plate,
05:43and that missed outside.
05:45So a four-pitch walk after the double, and the Tigers making a little noise here in their
05:51sixth inning.
05:52The ball is swinging.
05:53Bouncer to second.
05:54Holliday has it.
05:55Flips to second for the force out to end the inning.
05:57Corbin Burns claps into the glove as the Tigers strand two, and the shutout is still intact.
06:04That home run for Colton, number 21, leads all American League rookies, and he's obviously
06:10a candidate for rookie of the year.
06:11This ball hit well, way back in right field, and this ball is gone.
06:16A double-dong night for Colton Couser.
06:20No doubter, way over the scoreboard in right, the Orioles' fourth home run of the game,
06:26two for Couser, and it's six-nothing, Burns.
06:30Two down.
06:31That'll get James McCann to the plate.
06:32He's part of this power show here tonight.
06:35This is cranked.
06:36Deep left field.
06:37Way out of here.
06:38James McCann with his second tonight.
06:39They're going to run out of fireworks.
06:40McCann can, not once, but twice tonight.
06:41As the Orioles have their hitting shoes on.
06:54It's turned into a home run derby at Camden Yards tonight.
06:57So many homers, they broke the hose.
07:00Corbin Burns goes seven scoreless, three hits, eight strikeouts, now 14 straight scoreless
07:05innings.
07:06There is a possibility that the Tigers and Orioles would match up in the American League
07:10wild card.
07:12They would not want to see Corbin Burns in Detroit.
07:13Last two starts for Burns against the Tigers, 14 and a third, five hits, no runs, 15 punchouts.
07:21Orioles three outs away from taking game one.
07:24As the 0-1 homeward is lifted to left.
07:27Back goes Heston Kerstad, still on the move.
07:29He'll make the catch shoulder high for out number one.
07:33Check swing, and he did not go.
07:36One-out walk for Torkelson here in the ninth.
07:39Here's a high fly ball, deep center field from Zach McKinstry.
07:44And in front of the wall, Colton Couser is there.
07:47And now the Orioles need just one more.
07:49On the ground, through for a base hit.
07:51Torkelson waved around.
07:54And with two outs in the ninth, the shutout is broken up.
07:59On the ground right side, a base hit.
08:01And the Tigers will keep this thing going with the top of their lineup here now in Parker
08:07Meadows.
08:08A flare.
08:09Rivera is there.
08:12And the Orioles have won back-to-back, one step closer to clinching a playoff berth.
