Hi, it's Camille and Cody with Muddling Memories.
00:02
We are ready for sweater weather.
00:04
We are ready for autumn.
00:06
There's a cool, crisp breeze in the air
00:08
and we are ready to show you
00:09
how to make the perfect margarita for this season.
00:13
So we're gonna start with our pumpkin spice syrup.
00:16
We have our pot.
00:17
We have our hot plate here.
00:19
So we're gonna cook this
00:20
and we're gonna add our ingredients as we go.
00:22
We'll tell you what we have.
00:23
So first off, of course,
00:25
for any syrup, you need some sort of sweetener.
00:26
So this is our sugar.
00:27
We're gonna add that directly into our pot.
00:29
Next up, we're gonna add in our cinnamon.
00:32
We're gonna add about five sticks directly in.
00:35
Next up, of course,
00:35
you can't make pumpkin spice syrup without pumpkin.
00:38
So we have our pumpkin puree.
00:40
And this is the stuff straight out of the can, right, Cody?
00:42
It is, yeah.
00:43
So this is what you would make
00:43
if you're making like pumpkin pie or pumpkin cheesecake.
00:46
It's not very sweet,
00:48
but it has a delicious pumpkin essence.
00:50
So we added that directly into our pot.
00:53
Grated ginger.
00:54
Fresh ginger makes all the difference in the world.
00:57
That's gonna add that little bit of kick,
00:58
a little bit of spice, and a little bit of heat.
01:01
So we're gonna add our nutmeg.
01:02
And then, of course-
01:03
And this is all fresh grated.
01:04
Like we have it very nice for you,
01:05
but everything is fresh.
01:06
When in doubt, go fresh if you can, right?
01:09
Yeah, 100%.
01:10
And so this is also fresh.
01:11
This is fresh clove that we're gonna add.
01:12
That warming element that you desperately want
01:16
during pumpkin season.
01:17
We have our water.
01:18
So we turn this on
01:19
and we're gonna bring this to a little bit of a boil.
01:21
Camille's gonna just stir it around
01:23
to marry all the ingredients in there.
01:24
Yeah, so Cody, like essentially what we're doing right now
01:27
is we're making a simple syrup.
01:29
That's like flavored.
01:30
Correct.
01:31
So the syrup itself is really just like sugar to water,
01:33
say equal parts.
01:34
And then we're just adding a flavor to it.
01:36
So, you know, if let's say you don't like clove,
01:39
let's say you don't like nutmeg,
01:40
you can really just keep it pumpkin and cinnamon, you know?
01:43
It's up to you.
01:44
And I mean, honestly, truthfully, this can go,
01:48
I mean, and you'll see later the way it comes out
01:50
when we're finished, but this can go in your coffees,
01:53
this can go in your teas.
01:54
It doesn't have to be this cocktail.
01:55
Syrups like this have such a lovely shelf life
01:57
for the refrigerator.
01:58
And this is also a really great thing
01:59
to make the day of a holiday,
02:01
because not only do you have a delicious syrup
02:03
to add into your cocktails or your coffee or tea,
02:07
but your whole house will smell like this.
02:08
So you can leave it up on the stove
02:10
and then you have this beautiful fragrance
02:13
of pumpkin spice just throughout the house.
02:15
We boiled our syrup.
02:17
We're gonna actually bring it down to a simmer
02:19
for about four or five minutes.
02:21
Once it's fully simmered,
02:22
we're gonna take it off the plate.
02:24
We're gonna allow it to cool for about 20 to 30 minutes
02:27
to come to room temp.
02:28
Then we're gonna strain it through either a cheesecloth
02:30
or any kind of strainer that you have
02:32
just to get all those bigger pieces,
02:34
like the cinnamon sticks,
02:35
and if there's any ginger that's lingering around.
02:37
Wanna clarify this syrup a little bit.
02:38
So I'm gonna take this off.
02:40
We're gonna bring this over
02:41
and we're gonna get it bottled and ready to go.
02:43
So we have our finished product.
02:45
So we have cooled, strained,
02:47
and bottled our pumpkin spice syrup,
02:49
and it has this beautiful caramel golden color to it.
02:53
Before we get started on producing the margarita,
02:55
we need to garnish the glass the right way.
02:57
And of course, margaritas always are elevated
03:00
with a little bit of salt,
03:00
but this one's special
03:01
because we have a little bit of a cinnamon salt rim.
03:03
So essentially the lime juice
03:05
is really just acting as the binder for the cinnamon salt.
03:09
And I know cinnamon salt sounds a little weird,
03:11
but it actually, with this cocktail
03:13
and all the sweetness from the syrup,
03:15
as well as from the orange liqueur that we're gonna put in,
03:19
it really is lovely and balanced.
03:21
So we're gonna start building our cocktail in our shakers,
03:23
and this is a three-piece shaker right here.
03:25
So it has three pieces.
03:26
We have our cap, we have our strainer,
03:29
and then of course we have our shaker tin.
03:31
So we're gonna build our drink directly
03:32
into our shaker tin to start.
03:34
Tequila, margarita, best friend.
03:39
So we're actually using a Reposado tequila for this recipe.
03:43
Reposado means rested.
03:44
So it means that it's had some time to sit
03:47
and age a little bit more than a Blanco tequila.
03:49
Of course you can use Blanco, it works,
03:50
but we chose Reposado because it goes really nicely
03:53
with the spices and the flavors
03:55
within the syrup that we're using.
03:57
Okay, so we've added our tequila,
03:59
and tequila loves lime.
04:01
Loves lime, best friends.
04:02
So we're gonna add a half an ounce of lime juice
04:05
in with our margarita.
04:07
I'm gonna squeeze, you can use a squeezer.
04:08
Yeah, I'm gonna use the squeezer,
04:09
and it's really important when you're using a lime
04:12
or a lemon, make sure it's face down
04:14
whenever you're using a hand juicer
04:15
so that all the juice goes down and not up in your eyes.
04:19
So we're gonna squeeze that in.
04:21
The great thing about limes too
04:22
is that one lime usually yields about one ounce of liquid,
04:25
so cut it in half, you get half and half,
04:27
which makes two drinks, which is great.
04:29
All right, so we've added in our lime,
04:31
we've added in our tequila.
04:32
We're gonna add in our pumpkin
04:35
because this is a pumpkin margarita.
04:37
So we have our pumpkin puree here,
04:39
and we're gonna do about a tablespoon
04:42
directly into the shaker.
04:43
It's like a heaping spoonful, basically.
04:43
Yeah, it's like a good-sized spoonful of pumpkin.
04:47
And this is just your regular canned pumpkin,
04:49
which is great.
04:51
And then lastly, we're gonna add in our-
04:54
Orange liqueur.
04:55
Orange liqueur. Yep.
04:56
So we're gonna do our orange liqueur.
04:58
We're gonna pour that about half an ounce
05:02
directly into our shaker,
05:03
and then do you mind if I give you some as well?
05:06
All right, great.
05:08
All right, so the star of the show
05:09
is our pumpkin spice syrup.
05:11
We're gonna be adding a little under an ounce of this
05:14
directly into our shaker,
05:15
and this is what's gonna give it that delicious pumpkin
05:17
and baking spice flavor.
05:20
And if I can pour some in for you.
05:22
Yep.
05:23
Oh my goodness, look at that pumpkin.
05:25
Yeah, and can you smell it?
05:27
Oh.
05:27
Yeah, it's just, that's everything you want for the fall.
05:30
Add in our ice.
05:31
We're gonna give this a good shake.
05:32
We're gonna add some dilution to our cocktail.
05:35
Dilution's really important
05:36
because dilution is what helps balance
05:38
all those notes of sweet, sour, and spirit.
05:41
It just brings them all down a notch
05:43
and just balances them out.
05:45
We also need ice or glass, too.
05:47
Very important.
05:47
So, fresh ice.
05:49
Always fresh ice into our glass.
05:51
We don't call what's a dirty dump,
05:53
which is shaking and then dumping all of the ice
05:56
that's been shaken into the glass,
05:58
because again, it's gonna be diluted and watered down.
06:00
All right, so fun part, this is our workout for the day.
06:02
We get to shake our cocktails.
06:05
You ready for it?
06:06
Yeah, let's do it.
06:07
Give it a little tap.
06:08
Here we go.
06:12
Gotta make sure your tin is frosty.
06:14
That's how you know that it's ready to drink.
06:16
It's also important to make sure
06:17
that the ice bounces back and forth between the shaker.
06:20
You don't wanna shake like this.
06:22
You also don't wanna shake like this.
06:23
Right, you want it to not pick up the top and the bottom.
06:26
Pretty hard. That's what breaks down the ice.
06:27
That'll break down the ice.
06:29
All right, so we're gonna crack open our shaker.
06:31
Oh, my goodness.
06:32
I'm so ready for this. You can already smell it.
06:34
Beautiful color.
06:35
I mean. Look at that.
06:37
So, now that we have these beautiful pumpkin margaritas
06:39
just sitting there waiting for us to enjoy,
06:41
we also just need to garnish them
06:43
because they have to look as pretty as they're gonna taste.
06:45
So, we're gonna take some lime wheels
06:47
and we're gonna put those either on the top of the glass
06:49
or you can drop it inside, whichever you prefer.
06:52
I like to just notch it and put it on the top.
06:54
Yeah, and what we did with the lime, right,
06:55
is we've taken a-
06:57
Yeah, so you cut the lime-
06:59
Through the belly, and then we cut a little slit
07:01
just to make sure that the lime can sit nicely in the glass.
07:04
Correct.
07:06
And then, of course, to reinforce those baking spices,
07:09
we have to add in our cinnamon stick.
07:12
Aromatic, looks beautiful, and as it sits in the drink,
07:15
you'll also get a little bit more of that cinnamon note.
07:18
And this is our pumpkin margarita.
07:20
Yours looks beautiful, by the way.
07:21
So does yours.
07:22
Thank you. Yum.
07:23
Cheers. Cheers.
07:24
Enjoy.
07:25
Happy fall, guys.
07:26
This looks amazing.
07:28
Okay, that is, that's, it's actually ridiculous.
07:33
This is-
07:34
Tastes like pumpkin pie with tequila.
07:36
Let's sit on the couch, let's take a blanket,
07:38
let's start a fire, let's put on a scary movie,
07:41
and let's drink this pumpkin margarita.
07:42
Sounds amazing.
07:43
Let's do it. Great.
07:44
Cheers.
