Venezuela's opposition leader tells Euronews that "Europe is with us," just as the European Parliament recognises Edmundo González as president-elect.

00:11This is what Maria Corina Machado, a leader of the Venezuelan United Opposition against

00:16the government of Nicolás Maduro, told Euronews.

00:20She also praised the importance of the role that the EU should be playing to oust the

00:24Bolivarian authoritarian regime.

00:55The EU Parliament on Thursday voted on a non-binding resolution against the regime of Maduro and

01:02recognizing Edmundo González Urrutia as the legitimate winner of the presidential elections.

01:11What has happened is historic and very important for our struggle.

01:16And it sends us a message that Europe is with us.

01:19We realize that most of the resolution was voted by all groups, including socialists.

01:26So we do not stay in minor aspects.

01:29Europe recognizes that Maduro did not win.

01:35The Spanish government has an important role at the European level in the case of Venezuela.

01:48I do believe that the Spanish government should advance much more.

01:53Because they know what the truth is.

01:55As other European countries also know.

01:58And proceed to recognize Edmundo as president-elect.

02:02It is a very important message.

02:04Not only for Venezuelans, but also for Maduro.

02:08Two Spaniards, two Czechs and three U.S. nationals have been detained recently in Venezuela

02:13for an alleged murdering attempt on Maduro.

02:16The authorities of the three countries rejected the allegation of Caracas.
