Owner James Anderson talks us through how he can transform dusty and warped vinyls into nearly new condition

00:00Hello, I'm James Anderson. I'm from Slipdiscs in Stenning. I've been here for four years.

00:06This is actually my second shop premises. I started in Cobblestone Walk in Stenning

00:10in a very small shed unit, which was six foot by six foot. I was in there for two years

00:17and eventually managed to move onto the high street where I am today. Since then we've

00:21also opened another shop in Shoreham by Sea, which is only a ten minute drive from here.

00:27For this video we'd like to showcase some of the more unusual items that we have in

00:32order to clean discs, to flatten discs and to cut holes in 7 inch singles for jukeboxes.

00:40First up we've got the LoroCraft Audio Professional Record Cleaner. This is a vacuum cleaning

00:45machine that brings up the quality of discs to a much higher level. It will remove mould,

00:52it will make the disc look clean and it also improves the sound stage. The LoroCraft is

00:58manufactured by SME who are based in Mill Road, Stenning, so it's nice to use an item

01:04made by a local company. Also this is probably one of the finest vacuum cleaning machines

01:09on the market. We're about to clean an LP record which, as you can notice, has got quite

01:14a fair amount of dust, fingerprints and dirt on it. So first of all we apply the liquid.

01:24We use an enzyme cleaner, so rather than using alcohol this is much better for the environment.

01:32This can be thrown away afterwards and discarded and it won't do any damage to the environment.

01:40Then we set the motor to rotate and we brush into the grooves with the nylon brush. This

01:46doesn't harm the surface of the disc at all, but we ensure that all of the fluid is entered

01:52into the grooves to ensure that the next process works properly. So within the system we've

02:01got a medical grade pump which is extremely quiet. This is one of the benefits of using

02:06a machine like this so you don't terrify any customers while you're using it. Some

02:11of the regular vacuum cleaning machines sound like Dyson's and are very loud. So now that

02:17the disc is spinning we can turn the pump on. We also offer a disc flattening service

02:40whereby we can flatten discs that are lightly warped or dished. Another service we offer

03:00is a jukebox dinking service which allows us to cut a hole into a solid centre 7 inch

03:06single so that it's suitable for playback in a jukebox. Yeah these are some of the services
