Two Chinese tourists die after tree fell onto vehicles in Penang

Massive storms struck Penang island again on Wednesday (Sept 18), uprooting trees, destroying vehicles and properties and claiming two lives.

Firemen pulled out the bodies of two Chinese tourists who were trapped in a car when a tree fell on it in the Pinang Peranakan Mansion compund in George Town at about 5pm.

00:14A tree fell onto three vehicles parked in the compound of Penang Perarnakan

00:20at about 2.30 p.m. Two people who were inside a car were crushed
00:26to death.
00:26The victims, comprising a male and a female from China,
00:30were in their fifties and thirties respectively.
00:56Rescue personnel took about three hours to extract the victims from the wreckage.
01:01The Penang Island City Council said the storm had caused many trees to be felled
01:06in several areas,
01:07including Lorong Perak, Anson Road, Scotland Road
01:11and Mount Erskine.
