00:00Good morning everyone, Messiah here, yet again we are still staying in Wangaratta visiting
00:21a couple of family friends. What we are doing today is we are going to a historical town
00:26called Beechworth which is east of Wangaratta. This town is known for its history in the
00:31gold rust and its vintage style buildings. Before I start this video, I would like to
00:35acknowledge the indigenous Minjambutul people, the traditional custodians of this area. We
00:41are going to find a lot of cool stuff in this town and I hope you guys enjoy this video.
00:47As you go along the Great Alpine Road and turn left onto Beechworth-Wangaratta Road,
00:52you will arrive at Beechworth in 22 minutes.
01:12As soon as we reach Beechworth, we pass over this massive gorge called New Town Falls.
01:19Our first stop was Burke Museum, built in 1857 and dedicated to its natural and local
01:36history.
01:38What roles do they have in here? What roles do they have here?
01:44Of course, you are allowed to touch it.
01:50All the dead birds here.
02:01No exit, this door is alarmed. I wonder why?
02:07It's a baby's pot. Timon, do you see here, the baby's bed?
02:15There's a cash register here.
02:22Ooh, they've got jewellery here.
02:28They've got saddles here too.
02:30Ooh, a bicycle.
02:42Ooh, firearms.
02:46There's guns in here.
02:48I don't think you should touch it.
02:56The slate was made in 1927.
03:03They've got stripes and they've got pieces of writing. Ooh, they've got Chinese writing.
03:09Chinese writing.
03:15The PI doesn't work. More firearms.
03:20Some guns to grab.
03:23Ooh, they've got Japanese armour here.
03:29Ooh, they've got bearded runners here.
03:33Sweet things.
03:35Our next stop was trying to find somewhere to eat.
03:47We ended up going to Hotel Nicholas, a luxurious hotel with golden railings and a performance stage.
04:05We ordered mostly chips, but my father ordered curry and I ordered a chicken Kiev.
04:18After our lunch, we went to explore a couple of parks.
04:22We stopped at Beechworth Chinese Gardens next to Lake Sambal.
04:27The 1850s gold rush attracted many people from China who were drawn to seeking their fortune.
04:32This park was built to celebrate and honour the town's rich Chinese heritage.
04:37Using Feng Shui principles, this garden contains a little shelter for the elderly.
04:42The park is also home to the National Museum of China.
04:45After exploring parks, we went back into town and went to a couple of shops.
04:50There's an ice cream shop.
04:54Stop it. Stop it. Stop it. Stop it. Stop it. Stop it. Stop it. Stop it. Stop it. Stop it. Stop it. Stop it. Stop it.
05:03We first went into a Chinese shop.
05:06This shop is famous for its ice cream.
05:08Stop it. Stop it. Stop it. Stop it. Stop it. Stop it.
05:14We first went into a corner ice cream shop.
05:30We then went into this magnificent candy shop, full of many tasty treats to try.
05:35Unfortunately, it's impossible to talk about the candy shop without mentioning its unfortunate
05:55logo design.
05:56In the cartoon logo, there is a black sprite called a Gollywog.
06:00Gollywogs were dolls which were collectibles in the 20th century and appearing in children's
06:04books in the 1800s, characterized by black skin, white eyes, and red lips.
06:10Since the mid-1980s, this has been a racist symbol, implying offensive and terrible stereotypes
06:15and mocking people of color, which is not good and hurtful.
06:19It has its origins in blackface, another racist stunt where white people put black paint on
06:23their face to depict black people.
06:26It also created the racial slur, wog, which is a terrible way to describe people.
06:30This doll has been seen in a few shops and country towns.
06:33It is an offensive and hurtful racist symbol and should be removed immediately.
