I would feel heartbroken because I wouldn't find anywhere else to go that's like this place.
00:06
We're back at Fyrish Gymnastics Club to speak
00:08
to some of the young girls in the bid to save their use of facilities.
00:15
We started in this building in 2018. I was treasurer for the gymnastics club from 2016
00:24
when it was formed and we've been given a 10-year lease in here which still has three
00:30
and a half years to go. We were hoping last year to buy this building. We did get an offer
00:37
from BT. We couldn't afford to buy it then and now it's being sold and the price has gone up
00:44
over double. The price is on the market now for £400,000. We're doing a lot of fundraising
00:50
and it's a drop in the ocean to what we need. After hearing Val's emotional story I wanted
00:56
to speak to Inverness mum-of-two Kirsty who is part of the fundraising committee.
01:00
We live in Inverness. We travel to Alness. My girls were doing opposite days so we were here
01:07
five days a week. Obviously especially for the girls on the floor here at the minute
01:11
they're training 10 and a half to 12 and a half hours a week. They have nowhere to go. If this
01:16
place closes there's nowhere to go. Inverness are full and there isn't anywhere else. This is
01:22
kind of all we have so it's a lifeline for my girls. They absolutely love being here. It took
01:27
us so long to find a building that now that we've got it set up we just don't want to lose it.
01:33
We've got so many children coming here. We've got 700 children coming every week. If I didn't get
01:41
to come here anymore I'd feel quite sad and I would feel heartbroken because I wouldn't find
01:47
anywhere else to go that's like this place. It's been really stressful. Stressful on the staff
01:54
and the parents but hopefully we can make it work and somebody will help us along the way.
02:01
It's clear that these young gymnasts have quite a way to go if they're able to keep this facility.
