Fears Maugean skate extinction will damage Tasmania's image

00:00We recognise that the Tasmanian brand is at risk of irreparable damage due to the threat

00:06salmon farming poses to the Mojene Skate and its potential to become the thylacine of the

00:12sea.

00:13The Federal Government has promised that there will be no new extinctions and we intend to

00:18hold them to that promise.

00:20Each member of the Business Alliance for the Mojene Skate has signed on to an open letter

00:24to the Federal Environment Minister demanding she take action to remove salmon farms and

00:30remediate Macquarie Harbour before it's too late.

00:34With recent reports of only 40 to 120 adult skates remaining left in the wild and a potential

00:41uplisting to critically endangered being considered by the Federal Government.
