Mayor of Lancaster at Lancaster alumni open day 2024, University of Cumbria

00:00Hi, I'm Abby and I'm the current Mayor of Lancaster and an ex-student at the University

00:09of Cumbria, all with St Martins when I was here.

00:13It's been really special, it's been really nice to come back to see the changes but see

00:17the things that are the same, like seeing the squash courts was really fab because I

00:21used to play a lot of squash when I was here and yeah it's nice to see that there's some

00:24things still the same but all the exciting new developments.

00:29The University of Cumbria Lancaster site is really important for the City of Lancaster,

00:33it's a really special part of Lancaster and so knowing it's being developed is really

00:38exciting.

00:39We had a year of doing a PGC and we got to know each other really well because it was

00:43a really intense course and on our final big posh meal we were invited to wear fancy dress

00:50and we took it literally and we all came in fancy dress.

00:53So I came as Andy Pandy, we had people dressed up as Robin Hood and different things and

00:57we bought a clown suit for one of the lecturers called Bernard and just before the meal we

01:03dared him to wear the clown suit and so when he was doing his big speeches at the end he

01:08was wearing a clown suit.

01:10I'm not sure if all the other students found it as funny as we did but the group of us

01:15who were there in fancy dress thought it was brilliant.

01:17I wanted to stay in Lancaster having studied here because Lancaster is such a fab place

01:23and met a lot of other ex-students from St Martin's, the University of Cumbria and I

01:28actually became a godparent in the chapel 18 years ago of an ex-student's child which

01:35is really lovely to be back and to be inside the chapel has been really lovely.
