Self-checking for signs of breast cancer can be crucial for more effective treatment

An Edinburgh woman is urging others to regularly self-check for signs of cancer following the death of her older sister - spreading the message ‘if something doesn’t feel right, I flag it’.

00:14We are in Edinburgh in Scotland.

00:16Terry was just always the person that was there for everybody.

00:19When I was growing up I was like, I want to be like my big sister.

00:22She went to the doctor and they told her on the spot that she had cancer.

00:26There was no emotion, it was almost like, we'll be fine, we'll get through it.

00:29We were coming up to that five-year point of her being in remission and cancer-free.

00:33The cancer was back but it was in her pancreas and in her liver.

00:36It was incurable.

00:37I sat down with her and she held my hand and she went, it's your turn to look after the

00:41family and I was, sorry.

00:45I just really hope that I make her proud every day and I miss her.
