If you rub a glass rod with a piece of cloth, the electrons on the glass rod will be transferred to the cloth.
00:06
At this time, the glass rod will be positively charged and the cloth will be negatively charged.
00:13
This is frictional electrification.
00:15
If you put the glass rod in contact with another electrically neutral glass rod,
00:20
the electrons will move to the positively charged glass rod and neutralization will occur.
00:27
This is contact electrification.
00:30
If you put the positively charged glass rod close to a metal rod, even if there is no contact,
00:36
the negative charge of the metal rod will move to the end close to the glass rod,
00:41
while the end far away will be positively charged.
00:45
If the glass rod is negatively charged, the end of the metal rod close to the glass rod will be positively charged
00:52
and the end far away will be negatively charged.
00:55
We call this phenomenon electrostatic induction.
00:59
Next, connect the negatively charged end of the metal rod to the ground.
01:04
The negative charge will flow to the ground, making the metal rod positively charged as a whole.
01:10
Note that in the above process, only the distribution of charge changes.
01:15
The total amount of charge remains unchanged during the transfer process
01:19
and all follow the law of conservation of charge.
