The much-loved comedian and kids' author visited Floriade ahead of his show on Thursday night at the Royal Theatre in Canberra

00:00I've had a fantastic nearly two weeks already and I've been in Sydney and Melbourne so far.

00:20Melbourne was doing TV shows in Price so I started, this show opened in Sydney and it's

00:26like a world premiere because I've never done this show in the UK and it was actually two

00:31shows. We had a book show in the day for kids, we actually had two at 11am and 3pm and then

00:37a show for grown-ups in the evening but yeah it was good. I was pretty nervous the first

00:41night because I haven't done anything like this but I soon relaxed and then it sort of

00:48felt right, I felt at home. I think everyone had a really good time and that's what I wanted,

00:57for them to leave on a high and you know I think it was a kind of really, really, just that they

01:03were entertained is what I wanted to do because I think you know I want to tell all my funny

01:08stories but there's a couple of bits where, yeah a couple of bits a bit more personal and I think

01:13you need to do that too if you want to spend two hours with people, they want to come away with a

01:17bit of a sense of you. But also there's two Little Britain characters that appear in the show,

01:23in the first half it's Carol Beer, the computer says no character, in the second half it's Lou,

01:28the Lou and Andy sketches and then Matt's on the big screen as Andy and it's like a video call.

01:34They've been great surprises because the Sydney audience weren't expecting them but I guess the

01:40cat's out the bag now but that was, it was really fun and feeling the warmth for those for those

01:46characters which I haven't played for a very long time.

01:48I went to do some book events and I was quite surprised that some, you know, having never been

02:00there not even knowing that the show was on there or had any particular following there so yeah it's

02:05pleasing but you know it's, you don't sort of dwell on it but it's certainly, it's certainly

02:12pleasing that things are remembered and enjoyed and being discovered by new generations.
