00:00The fight against fake news is the priority of the new secretary of the Presidential Communications Office, Secretary Cesar Chavez.

00:08He is now in his new position as the head of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., Kenneth Paciente in detail.

00:19President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has been appointed as the new secretary of the Presidential Communications Office or PCO.

00:25The former Senior Undersecretary and Presidential Assistant for Strategic Communications, Cesar Chavez.

00:30He will replace the former PCO Secretary, Shelloy Garafil.

00:34The appointment of the new secretary was made by the President himself.

00:39Chavez was thankful for the trust given to him by the President for this new responsibility.

00:45However, he insisted that he will do his best.

00:49While I am the caretaker of the PCO, in the past 40 years that I have worked in the government,

00:57and to some years in the media, professionalism is my main principle that I will use here.

01:07As part of the purpose of the secret, it is to increase the information dissemination of the government

01:13to ensure that the message of the President will reach the public, as well as other steps that the government is taking.

01:19The secret was given to the President to remain as the primary spokesperson of the government.

01:25I'll be helping the President explain his policies, some cabinet decisions, executive decisions in particular,

01:33his legislative agenda, foreign policy, it's under the domain of the Department of Foreign Affairs,

01:41but sometimes statements from the President may be necessary, I'll be helping.

01:46I'll be asking some people who are experts on national security, who are experts on social development,

01:50who are experts on infrastructure, on PPP, to help me join my team.

01:55I cannot reveal their names at the moment, but they will do their best.

01:59He also assured that the fight against disinformation and fake news will be a priority of his leadership in the PCO.

02:05In fact, the fact-checking officers in the state media will be the backbone of the PCO

02:12to ensure that the spread of disinformation and fake news will be avoided.

02:17If we see something that we think is fake, there is a process of checking

02:23on how we can see if the news is fake or not.

02:26We will immediately mark it so that it is clear, so that it will not be exposed.

02:32Timely, accurate, and validated information is what we need here in the PCO.

02:37Kalihim was also asked to speak in August 2022 and to offer his position, but he refused.

02:45He insisted that the balance of power in the government has not changed, especially in terms of institutional change.

02:51Chavez has been the third communications secretary of President Marcos Jr. since he took office.

02:57First is Trixie Angeles, who resigned in October 2022.

03:00Garafil immediately followed her as the OIC before she formally became Kalihim in January 2023.
