Have you been affected by cowboy builders?

We ask the people of Newport about their experience with dodgy builders, and what needs to be done to fix it.

00:00I had cowboy builders here a couple of years ago who literally said that they were going to build me a new attic.

00:10They had all the stuff in front of them. Obviously it was not even legal.

00:14One said he was an electrician and it turned out he wasn't. They come and smashed my wall down.

00:19I think probably there needs to be more legislation and registration for builders and building companies

00:25whereby they have to be held accountable to a certain standard.

00:29I don't think in any other job you'd be able to run around saying that you're going to do something if you can't do it to the correct standard.

00:35I don't know what the solution is but perhaps there needs to be more legislation and policing of those companies

00:42to make sure that things are being done to an appropriate standard.

00:45Literally came to me for thousands and I had to really fight to get anything sorted.

00:52You see so many programmes, especially like the older people are, it's absolutely disgraceful.

00:58But there's nothing that can stop them.
