Iran: Why suicide rates are rising among doctors

Increasing numbers of doctors, students and others working in the medical field are taking their own lives in the country. Experts told DW what they think is driving the worrying trend.

00:10In the last few years, there have been a lot of problems in the healthcare system.

00:18I think it is necessary to have a social crisis in the healthcare system.

00:30The health system has been in a crisis for over 10 years.

00:36More than 1,000 people have been infected with the virus.

00:40Over 6,000 people have died in the past three years.

00:45The health system is now in a crisis.

00:50The President is angry, because he is a military man.

00:57and this has become a religion, unfortunately, in the country's medical education system.

01:02For me, it's a pain that my teacher, who has been teaching for years,

01:10is not giving enough attention to the right of re-education,

01:14and he comes to teach in front of a class full of young people.
