Transcript
00:00This year, the Secondary Schools Football League celebrates its 60th anniversary.
00:05According to SSFL President, Muriri Gonzalez,
00:08it's a huge milestone which makes him proud to be head of the organization.
00:11We are very fortunate to have a number of persons in the past,
00:16predecessors who would have worked feverishly, meticulously, purposefully,
00:21and positively to bring us to where we are now.
00:25A rich history of the SSFL over the many years.
00:28And we continue to employ each and everyone to come on board with us,
00:33recognizing what we have done and what we still are doing,
00:37who specifically for the youths of the nation,
00:40through the student-athletes in the schools.
00:42One thing that the SSFL wants to introduce is the Girls Premiership Division,
00:46which was on the front burner prior to COVID-19.
00:49In order for that to happen, he says corporate TNT must come on board.
00:53And I don't need to say what COVID did when it entered into the world
00:58and it created some havoc.
01:00It affected the present or the past sponsorship that we would have had for it.
01:06So right now we are desperately looking around for a sponsor or partner
01:14that will come on with the Girls Premiership Division.
01:20We have an entity presently that is showing some interest.
01:25Having said that, Gonzalez indicates there is possible sponsorship
01:29of the Girls' Big Five competition this year.
01:31Regarding the boys, the SSFL-NGC Super Cup opener takes place on Friday
01:36at the Hazley Crawford Stadium from 4 p.m.
01:38It involves league winners Fatima against Intercoll Champs Praesandu.
01:42It's going to be quite an interesting affair.
01:45$5,000 is at stake for the winner, including the Challenge Trophy,
01:49the Super Cup, and $2,000 for the losing team.
01:54But it will be televised and broadcast live on Sportsmax.
02:00Only $50 for adults and $20 for students in uniform.
02:07There have been instances of disruptive behavior at matches involving fans.
02:12It's something the SSFL does not tolerate, hence the reason Gonzalez
02:16is imploring fans to be courteous.
02:18I am pleading with all the fans and supporters out there
02:23who we look forward to support the SSFL for 2024,
02:27that it can be done with that level of decency and respect
02:31because the league is about sustaining, maintaining, and retaining
02:35the level of integrity and credibility that it has acquired over the years.
02:40We look forward and we know that Trinidad and Tobago can produce it
02:44in support of the student-athletes so that they can achieve their goals,
02:51their dreams, and their aspirations through this most popular
02:55sporting discipline in the world, which is football.
02:59The SSFL-NGC Boys Premier League kicks off on September 11th
03:03with 16 schools participating in it.
03:06This has been an Onyx TV 6 report.
