Woman Shows Up to Job Interview Wearing Shorts, Recruiter Asks Her to Go Home and Change

A woman wore shorts to a job interview and was asked to go home and change. She then posted her story in TikTok and the commenters had many opinions on if she should have been wearing shorts to an interview.

00:00I didn't think that I was out of any type of professional dress code.

00:04I thought I looked neat.

00:05Like I said in my post, I would show up to an interview like this.

00:09I felt like the shorts were appropriate.

00:11So, the internet kind of blew up after that.

00:16So, I just got a dress code during an interview.

00:19And then they decided to reschedule the interview with me for tomorrow.

00:22But before they rescheduled, the lady was like,

00:23would you like to come back?

00:24Can I go change and then come back?

00:25And I was like, no.

00:27I almost put on a blazer, but it was so hot that day.

00:30I took the blazer off and put on a cardigan.

00:33And I was like, I looked very neat.

00:35I looked demure.

00:36I was going over the whole like TikTok verbatim.

00:39And I felt confident.

00:41So, I actually met with the recruiter.

00:43We sat down.

00:44We did like an intake, like a briefing, I would say.

00:46She asked me a few questions.

00:47I told her my background and experience.

00:49She really wanted me to meet the manager so we can like get an offer on the table.

00:53So, she went back and spoke with the manager.

00:55And the manager said, I would like to show her around the building,

00:57kind of go over more details of the interview.

01:00But she's in shorts, so I can't do that.

01:02So, she'll have to come back.

01:03And then she said, it's okay.

01:04We'll go ahead and reschedule you.

01:05But once I got home, I uploaded that TikTok.

01:07And then I got off of TikTok.

01:08So, I didn't even really catch when it started blowing up.

01:10And I was just talking to my friend.

01:12And I was like, yeah, recruiter just like basically rejected me because I was wearing this.

01:15And I ended up canceled the second interview.

01:17I wasn't feeling that.

01:18I thought I looked very professional.

01:20Although the shorts were a little bit above like fingertipless,

01:24they weren't like booty shorts.

01:26They weren't shorts that were like all up, you know, just too short.

01:31But I just felt like I looked okay for a professional environment.

01:35It's definitely a difference when you're interviewing versus when you actually get the job.

01:38Because the business casual in the workplace, I've worn those shorts before.

01:41Never had a problem.

01:42I get compliments on my outfits.

01:44They don't see anything wrong with it.

01:46But if it's for an interview, that's where the topic is different.
