Worthing date for new Fleetwood Mac tribute band

New tribute band Fleetwood Mac – Our Own Way heads to The Venue in Worthing on September 21.

00:06afternoon to speak to Stephen Hunt, drummer with Fleetwood Mac, our own way heading to

00:12Worthing very soon. Now this is a relatively new Fleetwood Mac band, but you've made a

00:18good start, haven't you, recently doing a big festival which you're hoping things will

00:22lead from.

00:24Yeah, we had a great show last Saturday at Danson Park in Bexley, which is near Dartford

00:31in Kent, and it couldn't have gone any better, really. There's 5,000 people or so there,

00:36and all singing away from the word go. It's really true.

00:40People were surprised that you've done so few gigs to this point. How many have you

00:45done?

00:46Well, actually, we've done one little beer festival a couple of weeks ago, about a month

00:52ago, just to have a little practice, a live practice anyway. We've been rehearsing hard

00:59for about nine months. So it was literally our second show in front of about 5,000 people,

01:07and it went fantastically, yeah.

01:09And this is a bit of a shift in direction for you. You were in a Who tribute band for

01:13a long time. How did this one come about for you?

01:17Well, I'd knocked the Who tribute band on the head about the end of last year. That

01:25had all gone really well, but I was looking to do something different. I'd had enough

01:29of being the front man, so I was looking for a band, some decent bands, to play drums in

01:35because I've always been a drummer, and I got the call from these guys who'd been trying

01:40to get the Fleetwood Mac tribute off the ground, a local one, to us. And it pretty

01:47much went well. First rehearsal, and we've been working hard ever since. And now we've

01:53launched, finally. So, so far, so good.

01:56And as you say, who doesn't like Fleetwood Mac? But what is it that makes them special,

02:00do you think?

02:02Well, I think they've become one of those bands like your Queens and your Eagles, and

02:10those type of bands that have got so many fans. They're easy pop and rock songs to listen

02:18to, but they're great pop and rock tunes at the same time, you know. And I don't think

02:24I've ever met anyone that doesn't like Fleetwood Mac, to be honest.

02:27What are they like from a drumming perspective? Are they a challenge?

02:33Mick Fleetwood actually is quite a simple drummer. He'd probably admit that himself.

02:39But because he's a simple drummer, a bit like Ringo and Charlie Watts in The Stones and

02:45The Beatles, trying to do some of the things he did is often quite frustrating because

02:50it's not the norm.

02:51They're both deceptively complex drummers, aren't they?

02:55Yeah, well, they're tricky because they do things in an unorthodox way, I think. So sometimes

03:02replicating it can be a bit difficult without it being particularly complex, if you get

03:09what I mean. But I've worked out, I think I've cracked it now.

03:14And just hoping more things will follow after that festival, after the Worthing gig, etc.

03:20Yeah, well, we're looking forward to this Worthing gig in a couple of weeks time. I

03:24played there with my Who band and it's a terrific venue. So looking forward to doing that and

03:31looking forward to all the other shows we've got coming up if everyone wants to check us

03:35out.
