We visited Crosspool to find out about the Sheffield neighbourhood with two secondary schools, and close to football history

00:00Tucked away between Sheffield's city centre and the Peak District

00:05lies a Sheffield neighbourhood which boasts two of the city's best-known secondary schools.

00:10It's also just a short walk from Sheffield's oldest football ground, Hallam FC.

00:15We've been to Crosspool to find out what it's like as a place to live.

00:18And the general feeling that I've had from speaking to people locally

00:23is that it's a nice place with friendly people, plenty of shops, plenty of restaurants

00:28and plenty of pubs as well.

00:30This is what the local people told us.

00:50What do you like about Crosspool?

00:58Yes, we've got lovely customers coming here.

01:04We've got quite a few who want to drink this moonshine and love it.

01:07Oh yes, I agree with that.

01:09I thought you would somehow.

01:13Are the facilities good locally?

01:16You've got quite a few shops down the road here.

01:18You've got Tesco Express as well and a spa.

01:21You've got quite a few shops down here, local shops.

01:26And you've got Batewell just down the road, haven't you?

01:30Yes, it's a very beautiful countryside around this area.

01:36I would highly recommend it, it's not far from Lodgemore,

01:39not far from Hillsborough if you go that way.

01:43I think this week Longshore will come last week.

01:46Yes, you've got everything round here.

01:48Easy accessible, it's only about 10 minutes into town.

01:53It's good bus service.

01:56It is lovely, yes.

01:59Could you tell me what you think about Crosspool as a place to live and go?

02:04Well, good shops, local shops.

02:08Not a big supermarket, but pretty much everything else you want.

02:12Very good doctors.

02:14Walking distance from the Hallamshire Bridge for me is a big plus.

02:19Not too much crime, though there is the odds,

02:23but it doesn't really affect us as old age pensioners.

02:29Very good restaurants, actually.

02:32Pappachichio's particularly, which we go to regularly.

02:38I think that's probably about it.

02:41I mean, it's a fairly clean place, as you can see.

02:45We don't have too many problems.

02:50It's quite a good community.

02:53It's very close to the countryside,

02:56but we've got all the facilities.

02:58We've got good shops, we've got a nursery,

03:01we've got a scout headquarters for youngsters,

03:05and generally the shops are very good.

03:08I could even get my hair cut at a reasonable price as well.

03:12Is it good for schools and things as well?

03:15Yes, there's a local school.

03:18Well, there's two locally, really,

03:21and they've both got pretty good reputations.

03:25We're in the stage of life where we've got grandchildren,

03:29so they've had the opportunity of going to the nursery,

03:33going to the guides, again, a local facility,

03:37and generally enjoying life.

03:41I like Crosspool because it's a friendly area.

03:44It's got quite good facilities, not as many as it used to have,

03:48and it's fairly diverse, a mix of people.

03:55We have a festival for the last week of June,

03:58beginning of July every year,

04:01which starts with...

04:03It has a well-dressing, street market,

04:06activities all through the week,

04:08and finishing with a joint church's service picnic,

04:12something like that.

04:14And all the organisations get involved with doing things,

04:17open gardens, scarecrow competition.

04:20Is it popular?

04:22I think so. Some things are more popular than others.

04:27Yes, the street market is very popular,

04:30open gardens is very popular,

04:33fashion show, that's always very popular.

04:36So what do you like most about Crosspool?

04:39That it's friendly, people help each other, I think.

04:44There's quite a lot going on.
