00:00
Today we went to a classic car show so off we go in our Austin 1100 called Austin.
00:15
Going down the nearly freshly, I mean I suppose it is freshly tarmac,
00:19
just not the snow coat yet so we've got a few bumps to dodge.
00:25
We arrived there quite early so then we can get you a clear shot of all the cars and as you
00:29
can see it is pretty damn clear no people around so we there's some absolutely stunning cars here
00:36
and just amazing how immaculate they are and how people just donate so much of their time to do
00:41
them and make sure they're clean and running well and the interior and the outside I mean it's just
00:46
like a job every single day and they manage it amazingly and they do it wonderfully and
00:50
we met some very good characters today as you shall see inside the full video.
01:01
I like your teddies.
01:20
Yeah, yeah.
01:51
Now you drive.
02:05
After you.
02:20
I just got a photo of a bike with a man next to next to it.
02:24
I got a good photo of a bike with a man sat on it and I bet you it's the same bike.
02:28
Ah, right.
02:32
Pardon?
02:33
Did you give him a business card?
02:34
No I didn't.
02:35
Oh well I gave him a business card so I'm really good.
02:37
Oh right well I'll go give him a business card then.
02:40
I'll go try and ride his bike.
02:42
Right well you know I'll do something else.
02:45
I'll put a dog on top of it.
02:47
I'll buy it.
02:50
So you didn't get your little car into your car show.
03:17
It's not my fault.
03:20
So
03:44
oh
03:50
I remember this one from last year, and they put a seatbelt across so you can't get in and drive it off.
04:15
You bought your lovely car again.
04:20
Looking wonderful.
04:34
I see you've brought your teddies.
04:36
I'm going to bring my babies out now.
04:38
Yeah, are you bringing them out now?
04:40
I'm bringing them out now.
04:50
That is amazing.
05:20
And what's both of your names?
05:31
Judy and David Baker.
05:33
And this is your car. Does your car have a name?
05:35
No, it doesn't have a name.
05:37
Have you not named your car?
05:39
No, we haven't named it.
05:41
What would you name it?
05:43
Purple Ronnie.
05:45
Is that a type of car?
05:47
No, it's just a silly name really.
05:50
I'll have to get you a little sign for it.
05:52
What type of car is this?
05:54
Porsche 911.
05:56
How long have you had it for?
05:58
20 years.
06:00
How old is it?
06:02
1995.
06:04
Have you been anywhere special in it?
06:06
Yes, we've been all over the place.
06:08
We've gone on a lot of Porsche runs and Porsche weekends away.
06:10
Silverstone Classic.
06:12
A lot of the classic weekends we've gone to.
06:14
Is it quite reliable?
06:16
Yes.
06:19
Have you broken down there?
06:21
No, we haven't.
06:23
Only once we got 200 yards out and broke down by the co-op.
06:25
At least we didn't go far.
06:27
Thank you for showing us your wonderful car.
06:31
All these four are from the Lancashire Porsche Club.
06:33
That's brilliant, thank you.
06:35
Have a great day.
07:38
What type of car is it?
07:40
It's a 1969 MGB GT.
07:42
How long have you had it?
07:44
Probably about 10 years.
07:47
Have you done any repairs on it?
07:49
It was rescued from a scrap.
07:55
So it was going for scrap?
07:57
It was going for scrap.
07:59
Well done you.
08:01
Most of the rear end of it had rotted away.
08:05
I just saw an opportunity and got it.
08:07
Have you done this yourself?
08:09
I've done it at home.
08:11
Well done you.
08:13
Did you have any experience before?
08:16
When I grew up, my dad was a mechanic.
08:18
He worked for AA when I was growing up.
08:22
When I left home, the first thing I bought was an old car.
08:27
I've been doing it for quite a long time now.
08:29
I bet you're very proud of it.
08:31
I would be.
08:33
I have some more cars at home.
08:37
It's very tidy.
08:39
Is this original or did you change it up a bit?
08:41
Very little of it is actually original.
08:47
The seat frame is original.
08:49
The car itself from up to about here is pretty much original.
08:55
The back end is one I had to make a new back end for it.
08:59
Most of the dashboard is original.
09:01
But the seats have all been re-covered.
09:03
And obviously not original carpets.
09:07
There is a lot of original parts in it.
09:11
And a lot that couldn't be saved.
09:15
Is it in keeping with that type of car?
09:19
There is another one, a red one over there.
09:21
You'll be able to see the similarities.
09:25
When I did it, it was quite a popular car.
09:29
I thought there was enough of them on the planet to make this one a bit different.
09:35
So you put your own stamp on it.
09:37
I like your blue seatbelt.
09:39
It goes very well with your seats.
09:41
Your seats look very nice.
09:43
And your paintwork.
09:45
You've got very nice mirrors as well, haven't you?
09:51
Don't go driving off, Matilda.
09:53
No, but I could drive off. Would you like me to drive it off?
09:55
As long as you came back.
09:57
But you haven't seen the drive, I take it.
09:59
Maybe I won't let you see the hospital.
10:05
I could drive.
10:07
How do you keep it so clean?
10:09
And tidy?
10:11
I spend a lot of time cleaning it.
10:13
I am married.
10:15
It's our 30 year wedding anniversary this year.
10:17
To your car?
10:19
No, to my wife.
10:21
We've probably spent about 5 years together in all that time.
10:27
It's very tidy.
10:33
Thank you very much for that.
10:35
Have a great day.
12:05
Sorry. Yes, Peter.
12:07
So, you've got this lovely vehicle with you today.
12:09
Yes.
12:11
So what have you brought it along for?
12:13
It's for the vintage.
12:15
So people can have a look at it?
12:17
Yes.
12:19
And is it yours?
12:21
Yes.
12:23
And you just showed me a picture of what it used to look like just before.
12:25
Yes, that one there.
12:27
That's when it was found in the orchard.
12:29
So this particular bus was found?
12:31
That's the exact one.
12:33
That's the whole thing as it stands.
12:35
Wow.
12:37
That's absolutely incredible, isn't it?
12:39
So how did you do that?
12:41
Did you do this yourself?
12:43
No, no, no.
12:45
The guy that had it in the beginning
12:47
is the one who did it all.
12:49
All I've done to it really
12:51
is actually refined it all.
12:53
He's done the hard work
12:55
getting it all together
12:57
and I've just made it better.
12:59
So how long have you had it for?
13:01
It's 12 months now.
13:03
Oh, so not really that long.
13:05
Do you take passengers?
13:07
It depends.
13:09
It depends on what it is
13:11
and who it is.
13:13
You've got to remember it's nearly 100 years old.
13:15
So it's one of those
13:17
sort of vehicles that
13:19
I've been asked to do
13:21
weddings and things like that.
13:23
How can you tell a girl
13:25
on her wedding day
13:27
that I've broken down?
13:29
And you haven't got a back-up bus?
13:31
Well, we've got a back-up bus
13:33
but not a vintage one.
13:35
A disordered one.
13:47
I like the little two side bits
13:49
where it goes off to the side.
13:51
Those leaflets that you see on the side there
13:53
they're actually genuine ones.
13:55
They're actually from that era.
13:57
They're not copies
13:59
of anything.
14:01
They're actually genuine.
14:07
It's very clean
14:09
and tidy, isn't it?
14:11
Well, like I say
14:13
a lot of work has gone into it
14:15
since I've had it.
14:17
I've tried to make it better
14:19
than what it was
14:21
which I have done.
14:23
So...
14:29
You can't miss it, can you?
14:31
Open your door. Is it locked?
14:33
No, it's not locked. Can I open it?
14:35
Yeah, go on.
14:37
Oh, it's easy to open, isn't it?
14:39
That's a very smoothly one.
14:41
Look at that.
14:43
Let's bring it back in again.
14:45
Oh, that's a piece of cake, isn't it?
14:47
It's very smooth. Look at that.
14:49
You can open it again and again.
14:51
It's not broken.
14:53
Well, it's not been broken a hundred years
14:55
so please don't break it.
14:57
Oh, that's very good.
14:59
Oh, look at your little hinges as well.
15:01
Look.
15:05
Oh, they're great, aren't they?
15:09
Absolutely great.
15:13
Oh, you've got a good door there.
15:15
You've got a good door, she says on your bus.
15:17
Well done, you.
15:21
I'll take some during lunch.
15:23
I'll take some during lunch.
15:25
Right, are we off to the next one?
15:27
Yep, see what else we can see.
15:29
A lovely bus.
15:31
Thank you very much.
15:33
You're welcome.
15:35
Bye, have a great day.
