00:00Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's dedication to supporting lower-income groups is commendable.
00:08However, addressing the valid concerns of local residents is just as crucial, says Subutai MP Theresa Kok.
00:15Referring to the planned Madani Suria housing project by Ma Sing Group in Daman Desa, Kuala Lumpur,
00:20she said the Prime Minister may need to be further informed on the issue.
00:24Kok said many residents are middle-income earners and a substantial portion belongs to the B40 group,
00:30living in low-cost flats such as the Ratak Apartment, Sri Lumba Flats and Iris Apartment.
00:36She also said this economically vulnerable community also opposes the development,
00:40fearing that the area will become overcrowded and further strain the already inadequate infrastructure.
00:46Although Kok supports the Madani Housing Initiative, which aims to provide affordable housing for the poor,
00:52she said development must be carefully planned, with adequate supporting infrastructure and services.
00:58She suggested relocating projects to other towns and cities in the Klang Valley,
01:02instead of keeping them in overcrowded Kuala Lumpur.
01:05She said land in Selangor is cheaper than in Kuala Lumpur, which would allow for reduced project density and costs,
01:11and reduce the need to subsidise projects through high-end housing.
