George, let's take a look. Tier one defenses in fantasy football. Of course, it always
00:08
is kind of like the best teams in the NFL. You have the 49ers, the Ravens, the Cowboys,
00:14
the Browns defense is really good, and so are the Jets. But let's start there with those
00:18
five teams. And what's your strategy as it pertains to drafting defenses? I mean, I don't
00:24
know. What round would you say? Would you draft a defense before the 10th round, George,
00:29
in any league? Not unless the point system is out of whack, right? And listen, we all
00:35
play in some leagues where I play in a league where the point system is out of whack, where
00:40
a defense can be worth the same as a running back, too. So then I might do it. But in a
00:44
standard league, which most people are going to play in here, I mean, we usually play 16
00:49
rounds. I might think about it in round 12. There's just no one else out there that's
00:53
speaking my name. But there's no defense that's going, oh, you got to get this defense. There's
00:57
not. All right. We don't know how this new kickoff thing is going to play out. Will there
01:01
be more returns, more touchdowns? Once again, defense special teams. So we don't know yet.
01:06
So that could change thinking a little bit of a team as a good return here. But generally,
01:10
you're probably talking around 13, around 14 for me is what I'll start thinking about it. I
01:14
mean, you mentioned the teams, New York Jets, by the way, don't forget the Jets, right? Good
01:17
here. And you probably want a team that's going to score points because therefore the other
01:21
team has to throw the football, better chance for sacks, hit deceptions, fumbles, that sort
01:26
of thing. You know, I have to say, I haven't had to draft a defense yet in any of the leagues
01:31
that I'm in. And you can look this up for me while we're doing this. But generally, George,
01:36
you know what I try and do? I try and pick the worst team in the NFL, and just draft the
01:41
defense to play against them in week one. Because to me, if I can buy one win in week one
01:46
going against the Patriots, that's that's where I want to be. Who does New England play week
01:50
one? I haven't even looked. I guess like it's escaping me. Cincinnati. Right. So what I would
01:56
do is I would take the Bengals week one. I would take I would take my starter for the season
02:01
somewhere else. But I would also take the Bengals just to play against New England in week
02:06
one. It's funny, you should mention that I didn't do it on purpose. But there was my last draft. I
02:12
worked out where all the defense were taken early. You know, I was on the wrong end of a run.
02:17
There was nobody I liked. I'm like, you know what, screw it. I'm taking Cincinnati. They're
02:20
playing New England week one. And I will stream from there. Right. I don't know if I'll take
02:24
them again. I like to play Kansas City. So I'm probably not taking them week two. I will
02:28
stream from there, which is becoming a more popular way of going about things. You know, the
02:33
defense is gone, just stream. You'll find somebody who's playing somebody terrible that week. And
02:38
you don't even have to spend a dollar. Most leagues you can wait till the wave is passed. And
02:41
then you get it for free first come first serve. And that's probably how I'm going to handle that
02:45
league. Is the streaming options to start you think the ones going against New England and
02:50
Carolina? Is that fair? New England, Carolina. I mean, I wouldn't do a Giants week one, but
02:57
they're gonna be a team you're gonna want to stream against a lot. I don't trust Minnesota's
03:00
defense. But those are the two Carolina. We don't love the world is defense, but I'll take a shot
03:06
at it. But there's there'll be teams you can pick on week and we got Pittsburgh, you can pick on
03:10
them. You know, with the Atlanta Falcons, maybe. Yeah, I might I might not mind that. I'm looking
03:17
at Tennessee Bears.
03:19
Real quick. Let's go through some other draftable defenses. Let's just do tier two. Tier two
03:25
defenses, the Kansas City Chiefs, Pittsburgh Steelers, Buffalo Bills, Eagles and Dolphins. I
03:32
think beyond that, you're just throwing darks, right, George, like at that will be on those
03:36
teams. And by the way, the Dolphins defense isn't great. They just score a lot of points the teams
03:39
are gonna throw, right? I mean, start throwing at this point.
03:43
Yeah, I think that's exactly what the Dolphins are. That's sort of what I said there, right? You want
03:46
a defense where they're gonna score points, teams have to throw better chance for mistakes, right?
03:50
And you get there. And the Dolphins can rush the quarterback. I think Pittsburgh will have a good
03:54
defense. So solid. I don't know if I love the fantasy. They're not really it's our turn defense
03:58
here. Some people like the Chicago Bears. They were a good defense last year. Maybe not a great
04:03
fantasy defense. They don't get the turnover sacks that we need here. I mean, Detroit could be another
04:07
team sort of like Miami, right, Craig? They're gonna score points forced to throw. They did
04:11
reinforce the secondary. All right, so maybe that's not the place we can go for there. They do have a
04:16
decent pass rush as well.
04:18
Yeah, Miami, New York, Buffalo, all getting New England twice. Miami gets New England twice in the
04:24
earlier part of the season. So again, you know, something to consider going in.
