00:00Hello, my name is Sian Jones and these are the latest headlines from our newsrooms across

00:05the North West. A much-loved Preston Social Club has moved to reassure locals that it

00:09is not going to be bulldozed to make way for new houses. A planning application has been

00:14submitted to Preston City Council seeking permission to build 10 homes on the site of

00:18the Wolverham Club on Geoffrey Street in Merylton. According to the outline proposal, the dwellings,

00:25would be built following the demolition of the facility.

00:30An ambitious bid to create a leisure and entertainment hub featuring live music

00:34in restaurants and bars in Wigan has been given the green light. Approval has been granted for

00:40the creation of Stack Wigan, a development in part of the former Debenhams in the Grand Barcade.

00:46The department store, closed in 2021, was vacant for a period and more recently has

00:53charity Rebuild With Hope using it for outlet brands in the interim.

00:57In other news, Blackpool's Pleasure Beach has responded to concerns over corroded steelwork

01:02on one of its roller coasters. A visitor shared pictures of the eroded metalwork on the Parks

01:07Revolution ride and expressed concern for the ride's safety. Andrew Wright said he was queuing

01:12for the roller coaster when he spotted the rusty steel on the ride's caged loading station.

01:19Concerned by the state of the steelwork, Andrew chose not to take a ride

01:22on the looping roller coaster and later shared his pictures and raised his concerns on Facebook.

01:29A fundraising appeal to get a Lancaster University graduate with just days to live home to Peru

01:34has reached its target in just a few days. Friends of Alexandra Angeles Cato, who graduated in July

01:40with a first class degree in Fine Arts and Design and who has days left due to pancreatic cancer,

01:46were raising money for her to be able to travel home to Peru, which is her final wish.

01:51The target was £150,000 which has now been surpassed. Alex's friend Katie Cherry said

01:57thank you to the incredible generosity and kindness. We have reached the £150,000 milestone

02:02on our GoFundMe campaign. Words cannot fully express how much this means to me and my family.

02:09And finally, people in Burnley have had some of the best access to green space in the North West,

02:14new figures suggest. The Health Foundation said the government must prioritise providing

02:22access to green spaces in its plan to build more homes, adding innovative action is needed to

02:28improve access in deprived neighbourhoods. The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs

02:33estimates 39,247 of the 42,741 households in Burnley have an accessible green space of two

02:43hectares or larger within one kilometre of their house, accounting for 92% of homes.
