Hi, I'm Mark Dunford, I'm here with Sam Morton from Sussex World. We are here, Sam, after
00:06
Brighton have beaten Crawley 4-0 in the Carabao Cup. What did you make of that game?
00:09
It was a weird one, wasn't it, Mark? Again, you look at the scoreline, you'd expect to
00:13
say Brighton dominated and ran away with the game, which they obviously did in the end.
00:18
Crawley should have scored for at least two or three goals, especially in that first half.
00:24
Josh Flint had a couple of massive chances.
00:26
Yeah, bizarre.
00:27
Yeah, yeah, you didn't want the chances to fall to your left back, really. But Crawley
00:32
did create lots of chances in the game and really did go toe-to-toe with the Premier
00:37
League side, just like they did against Crystal Palace in pre-season. We saw a lot of those
00:41
signs where Crawley really could carve open defence and create chances. Barth and Brugge
00:45
made a couple of really good saves in that first half. It was a bit of a mystery how
00:49
they were behind in the break, really. But Brighton, they showed their quality and they
00:54
could have brought on Premier League quality players, all Premier League quality players
00:57
at the end of the day and that really told. And the Scots made that point in their different
01:03
nature of footballer, really. They could really be so clinical when they need to be and we
01:08
really saw that in those key moments and Brighton were able to run away with the game in the end.
01:12
Yeah, it started with a bit of bad news for Brighton, didn't it? A very, very heavy challenge
01:16
by J Williams.
01:17
Yeah, it was a fiery game, obviously, as we probably expected for a derby, which we've
01:21
not seen in a competitive fixture since 1992. So I think probably the players really did
01:25
get into that, especially Williams, who really did go in for a late challenge, really.
01:31
He was lucky to stay on the pitch, really, wasn't he, when you see the replays?
01:34
He should have been sent off 100 per cent. He didn't even get a yellow, which was pretty
01:37
shocking because I think everyone could see how bad of a challenge it was. And just such
01:41
a shame for the new Brighton man, Matt O'Reilly, who's now probably going to be out for a lengthy
01:46
period of time. It was a bit of a concerning update from Josella in the post-match conference
01:51
to say that he doesn't look good, he can't put any weight on his ankle. And you could
01:56
see that as he was walking off the pitch at the time of the injury, he didn't look too
01:59
good at all. So a real shame to see that. And obviously, there was that late red card
02:03
as well with Jack Rowles going in late on Yassin Ayari as well. So a couple of bad challenges
02:09
from Paulie's perspective and Scotland did apologise post-match for that. He said he
02:13
didn't go out, the players didn't go out with the intention to hurt anyone and he would
02:17
apologise for anyone that has been badly injured.
02:18
Yeah. So yeah, I mean, like you say, the scoreline does look like it was a battering, but it
02:23
wasn't. Crawley really did themselves proud. They had 55 per cent possession, I think,
02:27
and it's what they normally do in games in League One. So not many teams are going to
02:31
come here and dominate a sort of possession like that against Brighton, are they? But
02:35
yeah, no, it was a shame it ended the way it did. There was a lot of boos and there
02:39
seemed to be a bit fiery on the touchline. But at the end of the day, it was a good old
02:42
derby, wasn't it?
02:43
It was. It was a very entertaining game, very entertaining game to watch. That's all you
02:47
can ask for as a spectator. But yeah, just a shame about those injuries and fingers crossed
02:52
Matt O'Reilly's not too badly hurt and we'll see him back in action soon.
02:54
Yeah, excellent. So we've got the live blog going, we've done player ratings, we've got
02:58
Herzler and Lindsay Reaction up online at sussexworld.co.uk. Go and give it a look.
