00:11as she grieves her sister, Allison, who also died on the same day.
00:16In a statement to ET, Mariah says,
00:19My heart is broken that I've lost my mother this past weekend.
00:22Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.
00:28The singer says she was blessed to spend the last week with her mom before she died,
00:32and now Mariah's thanking fans for their love and support
00:36and asking for privacy during this impossible time.
00:39Patricia and Allison's causes of death have not been revealed.
00:43I have a family that actually cares about me, and that's really nice to hear.
00:47Mariah spoke about her complicated relationships with both her mom and sister
00:51in her 2020 memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey.
00:55But through the ups and downs, she managed to maintain a bond with her mom,
00:59especially over music.

01:23She played a major role in, like, forming my character,

01:33And, you know, she always really encouraged me with singing, you know,
01:39and she always gave me a lot of support.
01:43And she didn't, she wasn't a stage mother.
01:46I mean, she wasn't pushy, or she never made me sing.
01:49It was always my choice, but she was always very supportive.
01:52She never, ever tried to steer me, you know, into doing opera or anything.
01:56She always let me do what I wanted, and I think she was just happy
01:59that I found something that I really loved.
