Brisbane’s first plus-size fashion show highlights inclusivity

Plus-sized models say they still aren't being booked for campaigns and catwalks, despite the average Australian woman wearing a size 14 and over. Now a group of runway enthusiasts is making history -  launching Brisbane’s boldest fashion show yet.

00:09at a time. Curve the Runway is Brisbane's first plus-size show.

00:15You don't have to be afraid of being who you are, which is what I really, really wanted

00:19with this runway.

00:20For model and disability advocate, Sarah Shams, this show is unlike anything she's ever been

00:25a part of.

00:26I don't want to tear up because makeup, but it is an honour and a privilege to be in this

00:31room. To know that the industry is going the way it should be going is just incredible.

00:38While many of these models have braced the catwalk before, Curve the Runway will be Brisbane's

00:43first fashion show, which highlights inclusivity beyond dress size.

00:48Ash MC is the creator of Jitterbug the Label, which is a self-proclaimed one-woman show.

00:54She's redefining sustainability in a unique way.

00:57Jitterbug is just my love letter. There is no such thing as gender in clothing. There's

01:02no such thing as size in clothing. We have to embrace feeling good and telling your own

01:07story through what you do.

01:09While some models say the show has offered more opportunities, the industry still has

01:14room for improvement.

01:15I was never presented, especially growing up. I did not see anyone like myself. And

01:19even today, it is a bit better, but we still have a long way to go.

01:23Organizers say with the show being sold out, it shows there is demand for diversity in

01:28fashion.
