00:00Diplomats from this country taking up work in another country might sometimes worry about
00:06their dependents, such as their wives and children, who might have careers of their
00:10own and find it difficult to get employment in a foreign country.
00:14It's the case for diplomats coming to TNT as well.
00:18Bilateral agreements for the authorization of gainful employment of dependents of members
00:23of a diplomatic mission or consular post seek to lessen that concern.
00:29TNT has signed these agreements with a number of countries including the United States,
00:35Canada, the United Kingdom and Argentina.
00:38On August 23rd, the agreement was signed by Minister of State for External Affairs of
00:44the Republic of India, Sri Prabhupada Margarita and Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs,
00:50Dr. Emery Brown.
00:52What that means is when we post diplomats to New Delhi, their children and spouses would
01:02be able to find professional employment depending on their skills.
01:08The same would apply to diplomats from India posted to Port of Spain.
01:12According to the minister, it makes such missions more attractive and can further foster the
01:18deepening of diplomatic ties between countries.
01:21Dr. Brown says during the high-level visit by Minister Margarita to Trinidad, bilateral
01:27discussions were also held with the delegations of both countries in a number of sectors including
01:33tourism, trade and investment, pharmaceuticals and increased mutual support at the United
01:39Nations.
01:40Trinidad and Tobago is poised also to take advantage of a broader range of educational
01:47and development opportunities being offered to us at this time by the government of India.
01:54The minister notes that India is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to technology
01:59and this is one of the areas of high interest as TNT seeks to drive its digital transformation
02:05forward.
02:06He says training and skills building are very important aspects in that regard and India
02:11offers a number of high-level training programs to partnering countries where facilitation,
02:17transportation and accommodation are provided for.
02:20Dr. Brown states that a message was delivered by Minister Margarita.
02:25A message from Prime Minister Modi and his government that India wants to receive even
02:32more of our nationals to benefit from such training programs.
02:38Dr. Brown says it is welcome news by Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley and the government
02:44and the way forward will be charted following subsequent meetings.
